What would yo do for kiting???
This may be a crazy question for all you guys. I've been looking into all the upcoming deals on the websites for Christmas and Boxing day. I noticed
that there are some good ones out there and probably some real good deals to come after Christmas. Over the past 4 years I have been really into
playing guitar. So much that I accumulated some 7 guitars and a drum set. I have since gotten rid of a few that I do not play (including the drum
set). My prized possession is a Epiphone Les Paul Zakk Wylde custom. I have upgraded the pickups on it to match the superior Gibson model. Retail in
CAD the guitar with upgrades and case is over $1100. I love this guitar and it plays amazingly and never thought I would consider getting rid of it
unless I was upgrading to a better guitar. But now I have been really wanting to get an 11meter Frenzy to fly when the winds won't move me on my 6
meter access. Normally I won't be able to get one till the snow has melted away. So this impatience has got me wondering if it is time to admit that
I'm no Hendrix and sell my guitar to fund another kite. So my question from you guys is weather or not you would be willing to give up such a favorite
item in order to fund a kite. Part of me tells me that it would be a waste and I should wait it out. The other part of me says to so what I can and
get the kite. Really struggling with this one.

shaggs, I too play guitar. And my playing has taken a back seat to kiting as of late. But... I would never sell not even 1 of my axes for just a kite.
The guitar will be there when the kite is history. Not to mention , if the wind doesn't blow ,you can at least hang out and play.
If ( god forbid) that you were to break your leg kiting, at least you would have lots of time to work on your Hendrix riffs. Kiting is just a
sport, guitars have a much deeper emotional meaning( at least to me). Think long and hard about it, I wouldn't want you to kick yourself for selling
your outlet. You don't have to be a hendrix to use music as an emotional outlet. You can't always go fly the crap out of a kite , cause you have
had a rough day..

Yup, I agree with Weldngod, don't sell one love for that of another.
I play the Japanese bamboo flute and I could buy half a dozen bugs and a whole storage locker full of kites for the price of one good bamboo flute
but....
I wouldn't!
As Weldngod has said, there is a deeper meaning (and a different meaning, I might add) to an instrument that you have learned to play. Music will
stay with you long after you are done kiting.

i dont play an instrument.... but i concur with the above statements.... if you really feel THAT much of a need, get a credit card and pay it off...
it would be like me trading my golf clubs... i suck at golf, but i like to play when i can.... i dont kite or golf as much as i used to, but they are
both important to me, and i would not sell one for the other...
dont do it...

Just out of curiousity, wouldn't a Les Paul guitar especially a custom one that has been upgraded actually appreciate in value over time?
Even it isn't the absolute bleeding edge, would you really lose that much enjoyment as a result of purchasing an older model Frenzy? I expect you
would be able to gather the funds for one before the snow melts.
Just a thought.

Stick with it. Somehow, some way you are going to have a few kites kicking around no matter what you do. But don't sell off your prized possessions.
When I got out of college I sold off my baby - an '89 GSXR 750 Slingshot, blue & white, Vance & Hines Supersport 4 into 1.......*sigh* my high
school dream bike. Alas, I felt I needed to sell it to buy a "proper looking 'got a real job now' car" as opposed to the Vegas and Monzas I had been
rollin' up to that point. Took me eight years (and permission from the now-wife) to get a bike back in the garage and I felt the pain each and every
spring from that dumb move. I wonder how I could convince her to let me park a Vega Wagon back there........
Things I will try to always have until the day I move along (not to be shallow - this is all just material "stuff"....I hope to have life, love and
family forever):
My new dream bike (Pearl White 1993 VFR750)
A kite (at least one - can't imagine ever leaving this sport)
My prized Kramer Ferrington Acoustic Electric
My pan (steel drum - bore pan)
My piano (I'll even learn how to play it one day)
And my drum kit (Even in storage I'm glad to have it for those "wanna bust a beat" moods)

I'd have to go with keep the guitar (even though I sold mine, because I just didn't have the motivation to practice). If you're after something a bit
larger to get you moving for snowboarding, you might take a look at the Apex II I have for sale. Not quite as high performance as the Frenzy, but a
whole lot cheaper (as I should know since I just bought Frenzies :D). I might even be willing to cut you a little bit of a deal .

My opinion is with every one else. Keep the guitar. It will only gain in value. The kite will bring you joy. But when the weather is bad and you are
stuck in the house, you may want to play that sweet guitar. And it won't be there. Just a thought.

Well as the name says, I had too many hobbies and in order to take on kiting to a more serious note I made an agreement with my wife. I always had
2,3, sometimes 4 gas r/c trucks going at a time. I also had 3 r/c aiplanes as well. The agreement was to give up one of my hobbies to move on to the
kiting. I decided quickly to sell off the r/c trucks. I had way too much wrapped up in them especially time. Hour upon hour I would sit at the dining
room table and "play" with my toys. It is not comparable to having a great guitar,or drum set, but your question was, "what would you give up to
kite". That was the choice I made, and I am happy I made it. I have had guitars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and a ton of other toys, other than missing
my GSXR 1100 like mad sometimes it was the right choice to sell it. Going fast on a buggy is way safer than going fast on a gsxr!
Either way I hope whatever choice you make you are happy! A good guitar can be a great thing to have when the conditions are no good though!
And she doesn't really hate my hobbies! it's a rib!

Thanks guys!!
You all have saved me from making a huge mistake. I realized that if I got rid of my guitar I would never get another one like it. The guitar will
last for years while the kite could last only a season and then I'd be wanting another. Amazes me how much draw this sport has on a person. I'm gonna
hold out till I save enough to get a kite. I'm sure that when I have enough money set aside that a deal will cross my path. Even on this forum there
have been a few kites that have me wanting to rush to the bank. But they are out of my exp range just yet.I plugged the guitar in for an hour and a
half last night after posting this, I know now that I'll never part from it. Just in case anyone is interested here is a link to a demo of recording
software I bought. I'm not much of a player mostly cause of lack of practice time but I'm young and it gives me enjoyment to just be able to make
noise. Again thanks guys much appreciated.

I see where everyone is coming from. I have a lot of hobbies too and sometimes you have to give one up for another one. I would keep the guitar
though. Seems like there would be too many days that you could play when you aren't flying kites. I kind of split it up like this. I have my hobby
for windy days. I have a couple I can do on my non-windy days.
I also understand how you feel when you think I could have a perfect session if you just had the right kite. I have those thoughts all the time. I
want a higher wind depower like an arc, flysurfer or neo that would get me out on more days. The problems seems that I could spend a lot of money and
it might not even double the days I could get out.

Sounds like you made the right decision. I would have said keep the guitar, but the choice is really yours. I sold off a whole bunch of my snowboards
so I could get a snowkite board, and I am really glad I did. Its a great board. However, I KEPT my favorite snowboard so I would still have something
to ride for those good downhill days. I dont miss the boards I sold, cause I almost never rode them...
