Knots in a line?

Any tricks to getting a knot out of a kite line without ruining it? I realized I had one in a power line and now its like a rock after flying with it like that all day.

lots of patience a sewing needle and a willingness to ruin your fingernails. If you pick at it with the sewing needle in a manner that doesn't ruin the braid but allows you to get the needle into the knot and pull it apart you can get it undone. Smooshing it sometimes helps too. In the end though, it just comes down to patience. Carefully inspect the line once the knot is out to make sure it is still useable and won't break under load next time you are out.

Good luck!

Try soaking it in warm water for a while before working it with the needles.

if you have access to a blunt dental that would be better for the braid then a needle. The blunt end won't destroy individual fibers as quickly as a needle will. Even a blunt end needle will work, though I prefer the dental pick, it's great for getting the fibers oout of your teeth afterwards.

I had a knot on a front line of a cabrinha tube kite this summer.

I just saw after the session was finished. After trying to undo it, and some discussion with another rider, I thought it was best to leave it as is.

A line with a knot will be weaker for sure, but trying to undo the knot with some tools or accessories will also make the line weaker at this spot.

my 2 cents

the "ONLY" way to get a knot out of a line is to "CHEW" it gently. the combination of saliva and gentle pressure can got the hardest of knots free.
