Lack of kiting (and beer) made me fat
So I hit my all time highest weight of 265 over christmas.... amidst a long stint of no kiting...i could justify it all day long, saying ive got a big
build, wide shoulders, i'm 6'2"... w/e
It hit me when i got passed the radical... my harness (which was snug anyway...) didnt fit
I sucked it in, and flew anyway. But since then have really been bummed out. Really bummed out...
Well, the fiance and i got into a gym, and i have been hitting it like a madman since we got back from vacation around christmas. I've been watching
what i eat, and despite knee problems, have been soaking shirts daily in the gym. Im down to somewhere around 245, and damnit, by wedding day, we're
thinking August 15th btw, i'm going to be 200
Anyway, just had to vent... just got back from the gym over lunch and had a minute...
Peace out, and happy kiting for those of us that actually has some kite friendly weather!!

glad to hear it and dont give up!! sometimes a couple friends will say to me" hey lets get a pizza!" i just smile and tell
them no and they always look at me like im nuts--but then again i feel good pretty much all the time at 48 yrs old and i dont feel like im
starving--id rather resist some delicious pizza or other CRAP than have to be ashamed of my body and feel lethargic all the time--it just aint worth
it to me--and stay at the gym too, its fun--i do most of my training in my homemade gym--cheers a fellow kiter

Indeed. My rowing machine and my shrinking storage compartment are right there with ya! ; )
The nice thing is that the more you do it, the more you get addicted. Same with fruits & vegetables...the more you eat, the more you crave to the
point where even incurable sweet teeth (like mine) get turned around.

I do not have a weight problem like many others. I am in the opposite boat. I have a rare muscular disorder that makes it very hard to gain weight. At
6'3" 7years ago when it was finally diagnosed I was 138lbs. Skin and bones. But after years of hospitals and Drs. and many types of steriods and other
meds I have found a way to treat it with food and vitamins. Sorry to say I need to eat at least 4,000 cals. a day. And when hiking it almost doubles.
In a 9 day hike last year I ate 6,000 daily and lost 20lbs. It really is hard. I am now a healthy 195lbs. And no meds at all. I really owe it to my
girlfriend for pushing me to eat better and excersize. Lots of excersize.
So the reason I am really writing in this thread is to say I wish you the best of luck. And happy kiting.

I walk/run/hobble and wobble on the running machine in the morning and ride the bike machine in the evening - I can play TV games while I do it so the
time flies ... but it's a slow process. Especially slow when our scales don't
read consistently above 100kg!
I used to do do all sorts of crazy exercise all day - rollerblading to work etc but there's just no opportunity here for that - cycling on the roads
is suicidal and any sports team I could join is all about playing to win win WIN
rather than have a good time ... whacky country.
Need to pull the finger out of my orifice and use my home gym too ...
This might make you feel better ... I ju-uuust fit the XXL (biggest sized) Fusion harness although the leg straps are borderline tourniquet ... can't
get into my new Session 2 at all though!
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Drew keep it up but watch those knees don't wanna do more damage.
Be sensible and as you continue to lose weight the load inthe knee will
lessen. Also the gain in muscle will help to alleviate some if the burden
on your joints and your knee problems shouldn't be so bad.
It will definitely become addicting as will your eating habits change.
Good on you, I wish you and you wife the best of cluck with this...:cool2:

thanks for the kind words all!
Since my knees are pretty much toast (they have been for years btw.... 'good joints' in my family ) i pretty much stick to the eliptical machine or the bikes. Keeps the impacts off of my knees.
roc that is crazy stuff, glad you are doing better, but that is nuts, even in my lifting hayday i was only eating 4k calories, but i was packing on
lots of muscle... like i said, glad you are doing well tho
Its a good deal, i like to go, and i like losing the weight. When you like pretty much every aspect of it, its easy to go. and once those pounds
start to melt, and you see that your actions are paying off, it becomes pretty dang fun.
So i'll see if i can get some before and after shots up once i hit my goal
Thanks again all!

Oh the coffee. It is my single most necessary vice. Probably wouldn't be all that bad but when you drink like 15 a day and add two sugars and two
creamers to each one, I'm pretty sure it hasn't helped my attempts to lose weight. I quit for about three weeks, substituted with green tea and felt
pretty good. Don't know why I started again. Tim Hortons coffee is like cocaine, once you start consuming you always want some.

I like it plain and simple just like me!! But I'm white and sweet(or Sandy says I am!) and my coffee is black and not sweet.
I have not tried Tim Hortons but our oldest in NY likes it alot. I'm a green mountain or Maxwellhouse drinker mostly. Or most any gas station coffee
will do.
So why does Mcdonalds brag about Newmans own organic coffee and then serve it in a crappy styrofoam cup. When Newman was still alive they had to use
paper. I guess they save a penny on a hundred or something. I hate foam cups. Never decompose and alter the taste of coffee.
Ok done ranting for now. Stand by more to come I'm sure!!

I've never been described as overweight, (I'm another one of those guys who can still eat all he wants!) :piggy: But my middle does get pretty soft
sometimes. I think a harness may firm everywhere else more than the gut.
I use an old "ABslide" wheelie/handle roller thingie.
Believe me, those kind of thangs isolate and nuke the gut like nuthin else. A few pumps and I'm sore for most of the week. If you have back problems,
or are heavier up top ("apple shaped") you have to go easy on it. Otherwise it's like 10x more effective and faster than sit ups!
Handles (w/o strops) seem to nuke my puny biceps in very short order (it's just my knuckles don't let me use them too much).
I used to fret a lot about getting to the gym often enough. When I'd finally make it there, I'd overdo it to compensate and just get sore and tired
instead. Anyway, I finally dusted off my old, beat Chuck Norris Home Gym in the basement. Now, I found that I get much better progress by just doing a
few, painless minutes each morning on it.
As far as diets and discipline go, I read about the simplest and most natural ideal. Just eat an apple (or two) before each meal. Maybe chase it with a glass of water. That way, you get nutritional, expanded fiber to feel fuller
and flush out your later meal. It seems to make perfect sense (if you can stand apples all the time). I think it'd make even more sense for people who
had the stomach reduction surgery to prevent them from stretching out the gut again.

I am sure the apple idea works great. But it will not sell a book or get some has been super modle on tv. So it will never make it in the spend big
world.
I myself don't like that world so I think it's a great idea. You should push it to every one you know and see how it works out. My other half who is
not teminaly thin does tend to eat a couple apples aday. And always one before breakfast. She is in good shape for our ages. I will ask her if she
knows what you do.

Hi again folks,
Took me forever to get logged back in.
Anyway, I second the apple thing, I did it about a year ago. It works pretty good. Makes you regular and that is one of the keys to getting healthy
IMO.
I treid the Subway diet also and that works. I lost close to 20lbs in less than three months, was walking also.
Once you get yourself used to eating light, you don't crave food anymore.
My latest thing was to quit the chaw. Didn't work and with in a short time I gained 5lbs. I ate everything in sight. But just reading this stuff
makes me want to get back on the wagon.

Would like to. Right now I couldn't plan this weekend.
Got crazy OT at work and they can't plan a day in advance. Bunch of nuts. We do have new managers coming on board, I hope they can get things right.
I'll be watching the forum and as it gets close, maybe I'll know more.
