I want to learn how to Kite Buggy in NYC area
Hi - Does anyone know of places in the NYC area (within 50 miles) where one can learn how to kite buggy or rent one? Any popular places on Long
Island where buggys are allowed or people are riding?
I've been flying static and enjoying my Ozone Imp Quattro 2.5M but now want to get into a buggy and give it a try. I feel like I'm missing out on
something that looks like a killer good time!
Thanks!!
- Ozone Imp Quattro 2.5M
- Hawaiian 16 (old school dual-line)
- Next kite: Ozone Flow, Hornet or Beamer

Todd - thanks for the welcome and Wildwood BB info, it's now on my calendar and hope to check it out.
Cheezycheese - thanks for the invite, I'll ping a U2U when my schedule starts to free up. Are there any good spots up by you and when do you usually
fly?

Haven't flown much lately cuz of work, but I keep my in my car so um always ready...
Do you live in manhattan or the boroughs. I grew up in queens/Brooklyn area so I can tell you more spots down there... One of which is FLOYD BENNET
FIELD. Ray from cobrakites told me he has a customer that flies there regularly.... So hit me up and we can chat. I need somebody local to flu with
anyways...

And the double-post. Classic my friend.

The wildwood buggy bash coming up in May would be someplace you would do very well to make, if possible. Hope to see you there.

Looking forward to the Wildwood BB and hope to meet some of you there. Still looking to hear from anyone with knowledge of good buggy places to
fly/ride on Long Island.
Thanks Cheezy for offering to give me the flu :megan: (just kidding). I live in Queens and mostly fly static (no access to a buggy yet) at a beach
club in Atlantic Beach near the Rockaway inlet. I see people flying by Floyd Bennet Field but haven't done so myself. Ray and Jeanne at cobrakites
are pretty cool; Jeanne's been very helpful in the past. Give me a ping when the weather warms up a bit if you're interested in flying down here. BTW
Cheezy, I noticed you have a PL folding buggy, what are the dimensions when folded and does it come with a case/cover?
What I learned:
Power Kite Forum members are welcoming
Wildwood Buggy Bash is a cool event and the best place to ride near the NYC area
Don't offer to give anyone the FLU, FLY with them instead... lol
Thanks all for your input, it's greatly appreciated!

4. Power kiting is the best sport ever ;-)
I'm sure you've already done this but in case you haven't you can also use Google maps do find some open areas and also look for local weather
stations in that area to give you an idea of current conditions.
Good luck and have fun...

Thanks lunchbox, I'm sure I will agree with your #4 once I get in a buggy. I did the google maps thing as you suggested a little while back, just
wanted to try this sport out before investing in some larger kites, buggy, harness, helmet... you know the deal.

The buggy bash is a long time to wait to really get into things. Its 3 months away! Egad!
In the mean time, you could just keep tabs on what is going on here. There is a group of us who try to get out there with some regularity. Perhaps you
could hook up with us down there for a weekend... Just a thought. It might be a bit of a drive, but sometimes its worthwhile, especially if you get a
chance to really check things out...

@Bonehead- not sure of the dimensions, but when folded it will fit in just about any car trunk. there is a carry bag available for it but i really
don't see the need.
have you tried flying in Flushing Meadows Park....? there are a few fields there that ought to be large enough for buggying. Riverside State park on
the Upper west side... i'm sure i can think of more... the sports field at Andrew Jackson H.S. or Springfield H.S., Valley Stream State Park. I also
fly static at Jones Beach. :bigok:

I used to live on the Upper West Side. Few places to static fly in Riverside Park but forget the buggy pretty much anywhere in Manhattan. The Great
Lawn in Central Park would be a hoot but it would be forbidden- same as no bikes on the lawn because the man made landscape is too fragile.

Cheezy - Yup, I go static at Flushing Meadows Park when I start jonesing to fly, it's right near my house. An unexpected gust right off the lake got
me good one day, friends had a good laugh:singing: I ride my road bike there a lot but not sure if buggys are allowed. Next time I ride around the
park, I'll see if there are any large areas without obstructions that are suitable for buggys.
