GoPro

Just got my GoPro HD in the mail... it's night but I cracked it out anyway! The sensor has some pretty bad lowlight sensitivity, but it seem to work OK indoors. Yeah, and this will probably be the last time I use it indoors. The guinea pig got his last 15 seconds of fame with the close up helmet cam.

On to more pressing topics. How are people mounting their cameras? Helmet cam with a strap, with a mount, on the back axle, chest strap, on the down tube (j/k)?

helmet cam with the strap through the holes and off the axle in the back, also made a tri pod that hooks to the rear axle and sits about 2' above the axle to film forward, gets me, the buggy, and the kite. I have thought about the chest strap but have not done it yet, beard might be to long.

Stick on base on top of the helmet. I have a bullet cam mounted to the bug so I'll probably roll that one and the helmet cam at NABX together.

I LOVE the side-helmet rigs but with all the bits and the way my lid is built I couldn't do it. Maybe with the MX helmet I'll be able to.

Stick base on the helmet but I love the suction mount in the motorsport kit. I got a tripod mount too :D

Yeah you know these are coming... the next gen device will even be cooler ;) I'll be interesting to see what people come up with to use all this data. Re gps + video, I'm happy enough (and too cheap) to have two devices and correlate with timestamps :)

I like putting mine on top, but it's a good strategy to keep something in the field of view for perspective. Here is the last video I took with mine.

I plan to get the chest strap in the future. The helmet-top mount I had set up works ok, but looks goofy.

Hey Big Kid, I would have the same trouble with the chest strap. But as clumsy as I am I would steer away from the helmet mount as well. I like the rear axle mounts I have seen from others on here.
But as of now I don't realy need to worry about these issues, I'm broke :dunno:

Nice  obviously not a Japanese ski-field ... where are the multi-thousand dollar matching suits with massive logos and the helmets and body armour? Y'all look like you were going to the shops and accidentally turned into the ski-field car-park

... I've GOT to get around to editing the kitewing and skates vid I made on my ol' SD ...

John Holgate posted a very nice solution and video on the PKF. Here's the link to that thread and the How TO mount your GoPro video.

In the same thread (a couple of messages down), Kamikuza posted an image of a Seatpost handlebar mount for the GoPro as well.

Kami, you are right, this was definitely not the Jap Ski Scene.
But at the same time I was sifting through 4 hours of video for some funny biffs and stuff. If I had kept some of the video from the lodge I'd have been able to show plenty of expensive jackets and big logos on people standing around just trying to look good. The majority of them don't board.

As far as mounting goes, I used the sticky adhesive mounts directly on my helmet. I find that they work great since my helmet doesn't have vents to run straps through. I have had zero problems with them.

From the lodge? Posers  here, they spend the big money on kit, go out to the slopes and spend 6 hours falling over and standing up :wee: and getting in my way :flaming:

Someone in another thread said US$80 for a lift ticket?!? Holy Amper Lambs, Batman! That's as bad as NZ! One good thing about Japan - last time I went skiing anyway - full day lift ticket (9am to 5pm) was 4,000yen or about US$45
:wee:
