Won't it turn to the cobblestone pattern when it dries though?

Plan B will be a huge party believe me!

The show must go on, and if we can't buggy, we will still be together and do what we can to entertain each other.

We can't do anything about the weather, but we can do something with ourselves.

While i can't say to much on this very public forum, if there is dry dirt near by, we will be on it.

Naturally we won't be on Ivanpah if it is wet, but it's being monitored, i get constant updates, plus will be out there a week before the event, posting right up to the end what is going on.

So, stay tuned, think dry thoughts, and don't worry!

Hey Sailors,
I was out to Ivanpah yesterday, Sunday, 28 Feb.
There is still a sheen of wetness on maybe a third of the lakebed.
Small pool of standing water about .5 inch deep next to the hiway at the southwest corner.
The west side has a larger pool down at that end.

Temps this week are forecast into the 60's plus.
Small chance of precip come Thursday, but it isn't looking serious.

Typically, springtime in the desert lasts maybe a week.
Then it's summer.

Remember: Love bad weather just before an event - Bad weather never lasts.
Hate good weather just before an event - Good weather never lasts.

From the land sailors: Terry has been checking on the lake and reports that there is a little bit of water along the edge of I -15 and that there are a few puddles at the entrance road near the kiosk. He predicts that all will be dry in a couple of days. The west side was sailable yesterday. Despite what you may have seen on the TV this AM there was little or no precip yesterday and none at the lake last night. The forward forecast looks great with sun and wind.

Meanwhile there is a misconception about asking or discussing conditions. Please ask as often as you need to feel comfortable. This is the thread to do it in. There was a thread started with what a couple of us consider alarmist headlines. This was concerning El Mirage Dry Lake Recreation Area, which, is officially open, with the lake bed closed(currently).

Please know that we are as concerned as anyone about the condition of the two lakes we are planning on using. We are in constant touch with people there, but more importantly, know also that we are the ones who have the most experience with them.

The rangers at El Mirage are new. They have not been through the years of cycle that we have(almost 20 years and our combined experience is more than that, i myself have had two domiciles in Adelanto having spent more than a year of days on the lake itself). When we tell you we are not worried it's not a government plot to get your name on the census. Honest Engine!

While it could be true that El Mirage the lake might be closed when we get there, some of the best times we ever had, were the years that we were forced to not use the lake. The off roading there is amazing. There is almost 24,000 acres out there, much of it buggy-able! Really.

There are so many motorcycle tracks out there, that finding one with the right wind line is assured, and tours of the surrounding hills amazing fun.

In addition, we will continue to update here, what the conditions are. If you have questions, ask, there are plenty of folks here that have experience with the lakes, and are going there. In fact, Corey i understand is going to visit Elmers this weekend.

So, look forward to your aoxomoxoa, it is coming, and coming soon!

Hey Sailors,
What a difference a week makes!!!!
Ivanpah is dry.
More than 75% of the surface has turned a light tan (drier than the slightly darker khaki-color out near the freeway)
Some soft spots remain along the access road and at the north end.
A ribbon barrier at the gate will hopefully keep the anxious ones off for a few more days.

The real news is Elmers.
Remember that prediction for a wet dry lake until May?
That lasted a week.
Virtually all of Elmers has dried up and should be fine by the time we get there.

Weather predictions for the coming week include temps into the 80's F by Thursday!

Just got off the phone with Charlotte at Elmer's, the lake is just damp she says! No standing water!!!!

Well, we know what that means, let's hope they keep it closed until the morning of the 24th! It will be smooth sailing then for sure!

Thanks to all who phoned, email, wrote, sent that carrier pigeon, and worried about the weather.

As Freeman always says: Sometimes you just have to say f**k it and, go buggy!

Hey Sailors,
The English Invasion has begun.
The first of the Flexi riders have arrived.
Mark, Andy, Will & Stoopid Dave are coming in later today but Craig came Saturday.
Had to take him out that afternoon, just to show him how we do it here.
Took Craig out on Sunday too.
Nice and warm - no wind - until about 3:30pm.
Then a nice 12 mph breeze set in and we played until sunset.

Most of the lake bed is quite smooth.
The landsailers are knocking down any lumps.

Forecast temps for the week continue climbing through the 70's.
Nice breezes are expected over the next couple day so the landsailers will be happy.
Temps near 80 by this weekend with a front expected to come onshore Friday/Saturday.
Yippee!!
