I know that most of us were drawn to powerkiting for different reasons, speed, jumping, addiction to new toys, or just to be able to be outside.
My question is, why don't more people like jumping (Atb, buggy, static, snow water)?
I know that some of you are older and the thought of being 15 feet in the air sounds more like pain than it does fun, but what about some of you
younger guys who seem so diehard? I feel like theres more to get out of kiting that just simple speed runs. If you watch the online videos, big air
kiting and freestyle kiting is popular in the UK and other places, yet North America is far behind in this subject area. I know that we are attracted
to different things, but why wouldn't you try to get the most out of the sport?
why would you just want to go fast, when you could go fast and fly?Is it a fear (or a lack of insurance lol)?
I will do a little static jumping, and while it's fun, my goal at the moment is trying to go fast in my buggy. Zooming along 3" off the ground with
nothing but rumbling tires and the wind in your face is pretty cool. I am working towards the gear I need for ATB/snowkiting- I'll go for air then.
Freestyle and buggy jumping isn't my thing- seems really hard on the equipment.
Aim low. Reach your goals, and avoid disappointment.
I think you'll find that the answer is the same as it is for people in europe. Everyone gets their high (no pun intended) the way that works for
them .
i static jump all the time... i'd atb jump more... but, well i suck at it, lol... more practice and ill be tryin for the big airs... id just rather
pour money into kites that cameras at this point, i do have some stills of me static jumping tho! I got into this sport for the hangtime, speed is
fun, but looking 15' down to the ground, or floating 8' up and doing a 720 is an INTENSE RUSH!!
i like jumping :wee:

I lot of the folks on here are attracted to buggies as their main ride. That may give the impression not many think about jumps?
I think that the rest of us are attracted to airtime ? Pretty much everybody I know who rides ATB or on the water is out for air. Most of the static
group also seem to enjoy jumping ?
I was attracted to the sport for the nice floaty air. My age definately holds me back. Sort of to my surprise. :megan:
I have had my breakthrough but spent a long time knowing the motions. Setting up and prepairing to toss it like a 20 year old only to find some
person I don't know in the back of my head say "Oh No you don't" and freezing me up. It sucks getting old and actaully feeling fear. :ticking:
You don't see a lot of people in North America doing kites because they are either of the following:
*FAT
*small minded
*competitive/douches
*never knew about the sport
*think other things like cars and women are the new COOL
*suck on their console games till they are blue
*don't like going outside to have some occasional fun
Although I don't like going outside and you'll mostly find me on the computer, doing one thing or another, I got a few things going for me, I'm
adventurous, I'm from Europe, and I like sports which don't involve stupid socio cultural implications like football, basketball, soccer, etc. I enjoy
something that is fun, not competitive.
Call me whatever you want, but my words have some truth in it.
I do the following activities:
bodyboard in the ocean
ice skate for fun
bike for fun
swim in the pool
go out with a kite
ski at resorts
Those aren't activities I do all the time, depending on weather, and mood, I alternate as I see fit, and end up having a nice time outside.
I think I was a frustrated, would-be paraglider, so the float aspect is what attracted me. But my age and limited conditions/opportunities have
cramped this development. On the other hand, since getting more quality buggy time in, I have to say, (for the first time in my life), speed is
looking more interesting. (But I have an eye out for a cheap, used paraglider).
I hear Kamikuza, I am all about big air. I like high speed, and high jumps. So usually I turn high speed runs into big jumps with reeeeallyyy long
grabs too.
I'm not a fan of anything over 360 degree spins, I usually do some slow rotations if I really get up there. Nothing so fast tho that you need to
concentrate to keep your orientation lol
However I did nail an inverted 360 this past weekend at lake of the woods that
was a good time
I like to say i spend more time in the air than on the ground when I'm ATB'n buti t's not true. I wish it were :D. To tell you the truth i get bored
of staying ont he ground so my main goal that i'm focused on is more airtime and cooler tricks in the air. I'm ALL about hangtime :wee:.

+1 on going high and fast. I'm a pilot, so I get my altitude high there as well, but there's something about getting air with a kite that's
indescribable. Once I can afford buggying, I can't wait to get some speed!

Finally, a support group that actually supports the addiction!
I do jump and I would love to jump more but I'm a bit of a pvssy when it comes to pulling the trigger. I hope to get over that but not at the expense
of bodily injury. Doublespeed360 is my inspiration. He's probably got 12-15 years on me in age and when he sends it, he sends it! At the end of the
day I just like having fun and I can do that safely without jumping. Though I do admit, I would love to be able to ride and jump like the UK riders.

I wanted to do something snow-boarding like - without having to drive 2+ hours and buy an $80 lift ticket.
Also I was looking for something local that was similar to surf-kayaking, where the entire body is involved in controling the motion. Started
surf-kayaking looking for something local to replace rock-climbing after moving to California from Colorado 20+ years ago.
Now I'm back in Colorado and have come full circle, sort of... with the addition of an addiction to motion having been acquired in the process. So
kiting it is to feed the beast ;-)
You have a point there Angus. I suppose I would jump more but with someone sitting in the back the buggy goes up vertically which can get a little
hairy:shocked2:
Actually I have one burning desire, one golden prize, one driving ambition for kitesurfing ... the Jesus Walk
Realistic goals (maybe!) - back flips (those little ones off a lip of a wave or for a change of direction), hooj airs, big fat carving turns, wave
riding, walking to the water with the board then jumping putting the board on and riding away and the reverse getting out of the water, and that tail
drag turn PBK was showing off in the Flysurfer vids.
