I have been flying my 3M beamer for a year now and I am ready to slowly start building my quiver and get some toys. So if you have a great deal for me let me know.

I am looking for a 5m HQ Beamer - used because I refuse to spend 300.00 bucks for one.

Landboard- 100.00-150.00 I am just learning how to use one so I won't be jumping with it.

Buggy - 150.00-300.00 - I am little. I don't know if this make a difference, but I am under 5' and less then 120lbs. Nothing Fancy just a beginner bug.

I haven't found anyone around here ( williston, nd) that kites so I am having to learn everything myself, and I know nothing about Buggies or landboards so maybe I am way off in pricing.

i have a beat up, but upgradeable flight lite 100 landboard that would make a good beginner board... 130 shipped... will eventually need new trucks and bindings...

If you are looking for a used landboard, there is an Ground Industries AK 103 here going for a $150. Pretty sure it's running skate trucks, but you can always upgrade those later if you want. Don't know the seller, just spend time on the SD forum and it stuck in my head.

If you are looking to buy new (or don't want to deal with an unknown seller), the AK 103 w/Skate trucks normally runs about $30-$40 more. But wait.... there's more...

If you are buying from one of the PKF dealers (they're the masked men on the forum covered in a fine layer of dust, sand, and occasionally grass :wow: ) , I can defray some of the cost to push it back into your price range. Just pick the PKF dealers that sells GI closest to you to minimize the shipping charges.

How much do new trucks and bindings cost? I don't care if it is new or beat up since I imagine in the learning process I am either going to be standing still on it like a moron, or wrecking and beating it up some more. I don't know the difference in GI or flight lite.

I just want something that is going to be easy to learn on until my suck factor diminishes and I can justify an upgrade

We have pretty much had rain, frozen rain, snow turning to rain, 30-60 MPH gusts, since the kite landed at the office. I was expecting flaming penguins to start falling from the sky next. Fields have been heel-to-ankle deep in mud.

Sun is supposed to come back tomorrow and grace us for a few days. If there is any deviation from that forecast, I am seriously considering pagan sacrifices.

The Brooza bridle is very interesting wrt to the AOA adjuster. I love the bird/raptor silhouette

Caveats regarding the PKD stakes have been well noted, as one of them lost it's head (threads stripped) in transit. Would only use with smaller dual-lines (or perhaps crochet ;-) ) if I epoxied the heads on BOTH of them. I am pretty well sorted for stakes with a small... ok, medium cache of HQs.

Sorry... the geek/wonk gene must have kicked in somewhere. Normally this is kept in check by girlfriend/wive's glassy stares or a roll of paper towels (or cat) thrown at our heads. Harder to do that on the forum.

GI is Ground Industries. Some other manufacturers are MBS, Scrub, etc. Quite honestly, for a first board all of them are fine.

Skate trucks are the most basic system steering system that works by the rider leaning on the board. It works very much like a street skateboard, except that it has a beefier and wider axle to deal with the larger air filled tires. All the manufacturers, have other systems, but this is the most basic and should suit you fine. One up the upgraded trucks/steering systems is the GI Bionic (which is what is most likely on the Flight Light). It is a bit heavier, but pays you back with smoother turning.

New truck pricing will vary depending on what type you get: Skate trucks start at around $55-59. Others range from $100 to $170 or so.

Bindings can run anywhere from $20 dollars to $80 or thereabouts.

The AK 103 and Flight Lite are both longish boards which should be fine for just cruising the field.

Both are 9" wide which means that you won't feel like you are perched on something that is too narrow or rubbing your shoes against the wheels in a turn. The latter is more of a problem for folks with huge feet.

What else.... :puzzled: Boards can be made of layers of wood (maple with some fiberglass layers thrown in) which is less expensive,but heavier (more of a concern if you are jumping). The AK 103 is a maple deck. It can also be made of carbon or other man-made composites. These tend to be more expensive (new) but marginally lighter. The Flight Light 100 falls into this category.

The Flight Lite should already come with upgraded trucks (Torsion Bionics) and bindings (Talons).

The AK 103 trucks (skate) and bindings (Roots Pro) are more basic, but the board lends itself to upgrades.

Last bit of geekdom since I referenced it in the last two paragraphs.

Basic bindings are generally adjusted with overlapping layers of industrial strength Velcro. Even a small adjustment means undoing two layers of velcro and then re-fastening them.

More "advanced" bindings use a ratchet system like on ski boots. Push it one way and the binding tightens, push it the other way and the ratchet releases and you can loosen the binding.

Even though I have referred to them as basic and advanced, it's more a matter of personal preference. A couple of folks have tried the ratchet type bindings and still prefer the velcro.

Hopefully that cuts through some of the geek fog.

Couple of suggestions, Beamer great kite for buggy's not so much for landboarding. Some may disagree but I found transferring the kite power from my arms to the board very difficult. I was often pulled over the board with my 5m beamer III. If your serious about learning to landboard I would recommend a depower kite. Flying off of a waist harness lowers the power fulcrum point allowing you to "sit" against the kite while standing on the board. Also you may find that you are overpowered by the 5m beamer if you wieght less than 120lbs, I'm 220lbs and in a good 15mph wind can jump 6ft with my 5m Beamer. The 4m might be better or you can fly like "Power" and just go for it which is also fun.
