Engineers up in here?

Hey gang, I've noticed that a lot of kiters I run into are in the engineering field, who here hails from the inner sanctum of geek?? Does the inherent awesomeness of kites appeal to analytical nature or something?

Anyway, I'm on a kiting hiatus for the next 6 or so weeks to study for the PE in April, the weather is nice and the wind is up, shame I'm buried in books.

Just though I would procrastinate from studying and complain to you lovely folks a bit....

Yep, it's the first part actually. I hear they give extra points for saying you'll answer that section later...

This is right out of one of my sample problem books:

213: A state let contract is scheduled to go to bid 6 weeks from the current date, the construction includes a single span bridge replacement and 3 miles of highway reconstruction. The proper estimating process is most nearly:

A) Spend the next 5 weeks surfing the web, doing crossword puzzles at your desk, taking long lunches, reading the paper, and playing games on your cellphone followed by a week of frantic estimating.

B) Carefully budget your time to accurately and efficiently estimate all aspects of the job

C) Go on a spontaneous 4 week vacation, spend the following week reading forwarded and chain emails that you got while you were gone. remember 2 days prior to the bid opening that you need to estimate the job, and insert random prices for random quantities for each item

D) Have a nervous breakdown, leave the engineering industry all together and join green peace. Fall overboard from your dingy in the northern pacific while on an anti whaling campaign and die a horrible freezing death.

The answer for those of you not versed in procrastination is A, I got this test in the bag! :duh:

No engineer here but a civil designer and critical thinker. I design subdivisions for a land developer. Until 2 years ago, I did all the underground piping but they let our in house engineer go and now that stuff is outsourced. I just do streets and building placement and design now. I love to understand how things work.

I knew there were a lot of us out there. It's funny when I talk to fellow engineers at work, their reaction is almost always more enthusiastic than those with a more liberal arts background, I've even talked a few into flights with the trainer and they always have fun and want to know how it all works.
