jumping on board/ redirecting problems

hey everyone,

i've been kiting with my 8m manta and atm im learning to jump. Now i know how to jump and sometimes i an get a good 12 feet up and sometimes do a foot out and 360 in low winds . BUUUUUUT, sometimes just before i jump i think i may be directing the kite to far accross the window, because then when in the air i just dont have enough time to get it back ( redirect ) and so i find myself being slightly turned so i land like on my side or back . i hope this makes sence.

So basically if im going to the left, i then direct kite right then jump, i get into the air then i pull on left of bar to bring back accross overhead to give me a float. But i dont think its comming all the way back accross. and so im kind of turning in the air and landing on my side or back .

Should i direct to only about 12 o clock then, and then redirect ?? or 1 o clock

also do you have any tips on turning kite faster ? like holdying hands wider or closer or anything.

thanks

really hope this makes sence:wee:

Speed of the kite shouldn't be a problem with an 8m manta. When you jump, have the bar sheeted out, redirect, and then when you feel a large amount of upward pull, release and pull the bar in. Don't be afraid of your front hand. The closer to the end of the bar you put your hand, the more leverage you'll have and the faster the kite will move, so maybe try putting your front hand at the end of the bar. As far as spinning while in the air, I have that same problem too. Try leaning back some, that helps stop the rotation. Going past 12 shouldn't be a problem with an 8m. I was directing my 14m from 10 to 2 in light winds and was still directing the kite overhead for the float and back down for the landing. When are you starting your redirect? In low winds I'll usually redirect right after I pull the bar in. If you let the bar out at the apex of the jump, the kite will move faster which may help your problem.

I just got a 5m ram air. And I got a control bar for it. The brake lines are in the middle and the power to the outside. The brake lines have alot of slack in them. Is this ok? I tryed tightening them and the kite dies. The reason I ask is. It turns alittle slow in 5-10 mph winds. Is this normal? Thanks.

your forward speed and kite position will give you more time.

moderate forward speed, with the kite closer to 12 to initiate the "send" for the jump. keep the kite over you it will give higher loft. if you send hard and away from over you, it pulls you that direction. think kite above me! put it there, wait for it to come over you, edge/jump hard when its there, short snappy sends right above=up not out.

feeling the apex on a good jump, this is where you have time for redirect. keep going forward or back the other way, the hand remaining on the bar tells the story... if you haven't made up your mind ...the hand on the bar will. give input while still powered through the apex. it 'll help you control the landings

focus on kite position when starting , if you place it high it will produce high airs with good speed.

if you get good lift but everything kinda finishes weak (drops you, stall, just not enough)
-you could wait for more air
-you add a loop (which can come with decent side pull if not high enough)

I had the same problem with slightly spinning in the air during big jumps and landing on my side. The truth is CONSISTANTLY performing big jumps with perfect landings requires a lot of skill, understanding and practice. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Lift your knees- this keeps your center of gravity more compact and reduces dangling and incidental loss of balance.

2. Study the relationship between kite and rider during jumps- the pendulum effect. Pay close attention to kite position. Its not just as simple as sending the kite from 10 to 2, or 11 to 1. The wind window has depth too. Is the kite at the edge of the window, or deep in the window?

3. Redirect the kite sooner- it will pull you out of the rotation.

4. Careful with the board- most rotations start here.

Good luck.
