After seeing this HUGH JASS world record speed on here it got me thinking of sitting in the saddle while doing those speeds in a buggy.

Are you ever afraid of your leg spazzing out and kicking your foot forward to make the front wheel spin 90 degrees? It would just be one of my fears if I ever got up to high speeds and maybe my foot slipped or something O.O. I've never buggied so I don't know how it feels, but is something like that even possible?

Leg spazzing probably falls under act of God or lack of bannas.

Foot slippage or getting jarred from the foot pedals from hitting a rut is probably why folks have stirrups for foot pedals like the ones Cheezy recenting installed.

It could happen in any sport. That is why I let others take to lead.
Oh sure I could get my home made buggy up to those speeds with my non expensive foils and blow them all away. But why risk scratching the paint or something worse.
So I say NO let the other guys get all the glory and I will sit back and admire them. Dream it was me and enjoy the knollage that I'm not freaken nuts and I'm not doing it ever!!!

we all use heel straps so there is only a rare chance it may come out (ie. a bump in the road).

Ozzy buggies with one leg. so you're not really having to place force on the footpegs.

the brown stains on DaSkirtz buggy is something more to worry about.

Most buggies have a stop that keeps the front wheel from spinning 180 / 360

Well at 82.9mph it would not take much turn to whipe you out. So praise to you guys who take the challange and allow us to look up to you. It takes HOOJ ones to do those speeds in any conditions.

couple times when i was around 50, i thought to myself " if i wreck, im going to the hospital fer sure" but usually i,m too excited to think about it

The thing about getting your speed up is that most anything over 25 you have started to bare off downwind which lessens the pull from the kite. The scary part about going THAT fast is getting the kite to leave you enough alone to be able to slow down. I haven't learned that trick yet. When I actually would be heading out with a small enough kite, usually 3m or so was small enough up to about 25 mph winds for me, the Dutch guys would have 4-5meter kites out. These guys have skills and the kahunas to hold on no doubt. Even at my paltry top speeds of 35-45, I wasn't afraid if I was properly powered, so the buggy, (at least mine at those speeds) wasn't causing the fear, but rather, being overpowered was about my only fear while going somewhat fast. Just for grins, I calculated my 45 mph top speed in feet per second and got 66. That sounds faster than 45. :roll:

Feet coming off the foot pegs isn't a big deal - most buggies fork rake will create a centering gyro for the front wheel. I have had a foot come off a peg at 45mph and it was really no bigy, the front wheel held a dead true line and I put my foot back. Key thing when going fast is trying to relax and not over react or become too tense, focus on obstacles and kite position - always good to know your terrain before you run it, nothing worse than hitting a bump at speed that bucks you out of the #@%$#!pit.

suicide jibe is now the best way to slow down. ive been practicing at NABX. its faster than fighting the kite to carve upwind to slow down.

Semi-retarded...Rip can you explain suicide jibe for this short bus rider. This is part of the problem that I had when I started to go fast, compounded by the fact that my side rails are WAY too wide (live and learn and fix in the next build.)

Heliboy do you have another seat on that bus?
Can you put extra padding on your rails?

I saw some making that turn. I spoke to several about it and found it odd that the buggy was making a wide downwind turn yet the kite just followed in a smooth arc. There are mulitple yt vids on it. I just never needed to know how before. I needed to know at NABX.

When it comes to running over 70 mph, most of us are on the short bus. Or you can look at it like all of us are normal and anyone running over 70 is taking the limo to school.

I agree, The thought of sliding 66 feet in a second seems really fast to me:shocked2::shocked2:

... actually I have on a few occasions nearly completed a deadman's turn/ Suicide jibe completely by accident by botching up a normal Jibe. In each case I ended up downwind of the kite and it luffs and falls towards me, but it was clear that if I managed to keep the kite flying fast in the opposite direction of travel, then turn back upwind as the kite comes around in the same direction of travel then I might pull it off...

I had a feeling that was what a suicide jibe was but wasn't sure- far beyond my skills. I can scream, wet my pants, and crash my kite with the best of them though. Always room on the little bus roc, and it's well padded with no sharp corners.

Are helmets required for said bus?

i will add this, do not try this with your LOW AR foils, I couldn't get the PL Hornet (for example) to get high enough to zenith fast enough, and it drifted behind me.

IMO, this maneuver is meant for race kites only ie. RII, Vapor, Spirit, Combat, CII, etc etc.

Is there footage about of the slide stop?

As with all the other fancy stuff I will leave it to the fast guys. Maybe I'll see someone do it in person some time!
