wanted: small blue kite

I'm trying to get my wife into the sport a bit more and she insists that she'll fly more if she gets a "blue" kite. I'm looking for a quad line less than 4 meters that I can use in high winds and she can use the rest of the time. Some of the current kites I've been looking at are the HQ crossfire 3.2 and PL viper 2.6. I'm open to suggestions and I don't mind older models if anyone has one available. I may also be interested in an '04 or '05 ozone frenzy in the smaller sizes (she likes the way they look).

Two notes: budget is tight and I'm in the US.

Thanks!

fyi if the kite is totally blue it can be hard to see sometimes because it will blend in with the sky. I understand that women want what they want though.

The viper is my favorite and it has the black stripe to contrast to the sky. It will be much more user friendly for her than the crossfire or a frenzy. The frenzy you will have to harness her in. Its your wife not mine, but I wouldn't harness my wife in before she had some experience in. ;-)

Flexifoil Rage 2.5 in Samba

Flexifoil Bullet came in various "blue" schemes it's a matter of finding the right years, 'cause they flopped sizes and colors a lot between years.

Awww crap.... was going to leave it out due to bias, but what the heck. In most pics, it looks too dark, but when backlit the blue panels lighten up quite a bit, so.....

Flexifoil Sting in Petrol 1.2/1.7/2.4/3.3

A tad larger, but the PKD Buster and Brooza in 4M are both very blue.

Pretty sure that the Ozone Imp III Quattro 3.5 runs the same colors as the Flow 5M

FWIW: I was talking to Angus the other day, and he mentioned that sell sheet says that they will do the Viper in custom colors (maintaining the panel layout though). That could be interesting. Not sure if or what the surcharge is, but costs nothing to ask.

Sam

Pretty sure it was the viper... now you have me second guessing myself. What other magical powers does Red Bull give you?

If you have the latest PL printed literture, I think Angus said there was a very small blurb about it there.

Not sure about turnaround on PLs, but Ozone's cycle time for customs as of last week was 23 days.... not intolerable for a custom... actually on a par with a lot of custom SLKs and dual-line kites.

Yes, but Ozone owns their own factory. That gives them a bit more ability to customize.

The blue that is on the 5m Flow is gorgeous. And it should be the same color on the 3.5 Imp.

True enough, but I don't expect that PL would offer up something with that high a "piss off the customer" quotient without a good feel for the wait time being tolerable.

I expect you can get an ETA at the time of order/quote (with all the caveats that apply) and pony up or walk away from the table.

People are still skewed towards the "I don't care what color" last time we had a straw poll.... others will pay for their pleasures in money or sweat/anxiety or both.

My wife doesn't like the power kites, but she does like the Peter Lynn Vibes. She flies a 1.9, but the 1.6 is blue.

Not what you are looking for, just some info.

The Twister 3m comes in blue as well. Depends on how much pull she / you want.

I'd really like to go quad line for control/brake capabilities and the characteristically better bridal. Thanks for the input guys. Does anybody have any kites though?

hmmm.... if she has never flown before you might want to steer her away from the Crossfire. I know it's a little bigger... but a 5m beamer is blue. If you guys are in NM I might be able to come down and fly with her a bit (diff when a non-related person and a girl) does it. :) And I just happen to have a Blue 5m Beamer in my quiver.

Thanks to everybody that has u2u'd. Unfortunately I don't have the budget (yet) to get something new. I was really hoping that somebody had something in the back of their closet that they were willing to give up. Around $100 if possible.
