Mood: Ready for some sand!

SLP

Wanted to go fly some kites today, so headed down to Galveston.

Thought I'd go to East Beach... since it's been a while since I have been there. Pole City!!!! Not to mention I refuse to pay 8 bucks to go onto a beach that looked that horrible.

So off to SLP we went.

Mainly an easterly wind 15-25 mph today. Upwind slogs to the water tower with speed runs on the return. Total of three vehicles there (including mine) so was virtually deserted.

Lots of man-o-wars (jelly fish) on the beach, so had fun popping them with the buggy tires. Tide was out so I had smooth hardpack. Only people out near the condos was a single couple walking a dog. Got out in the water and did a little kiteboarding to cool off... then packed it up and headed home.

Sand near the dunes and at the tideline is safe to drive on, but the middle areas have LOTS and LOTS of soft drifts everywhere. Entrance road is getting really rough, so take it slow giong in. The path in the dunes near where the DBBB gang usually camps is still there, and hard enough to ride on, but the big flat between there and the water is covered in soft sand drifts.

Was a nice change from the weekends, when there are more four-wheelers than flies on a pile of steaming dung.

That back run can be alot of fun! Before the condos were built we had a run from the bridge to water tower in the fields behind the sand dunes, in spring the flowers were amazing!.........aj

I had to run into Central Texas today. The bluebonnets were amazing on some of the back country roads.

The yellow flowers that grow in the dunes were in bloom the other day as well :) Just too many of them have been destroyed or damaged by the four wheelers and 4-wheel drives.

I daydream of going back to La Pesca Soon.... it's the best place I have ever buggy'd and blows away anywhere that I've even seen pictures of in North America (and I do mean the entire continent, not just the USA). But that's just my opinion. I prefer the coastal environments, and loved the people and climate there.

Just trying to get the wife walking better before we go again.

Went to SLP yesterday..

After some good rain showers recently, the soft white sand mounds were packed down, so driving was not a problem for most of the area.

South wind, so not really great for buggying, but did play around for an hour or so on the rain packed areas. Lots of seaweed starting to gather along the tide line, but that's normal for this time of year.

Winds were 10-15, so put up the 16 Scorpion and went out into the water. Once past the breakers, was some great riding. Out there you could pick up enough speed to hold a good edge and go upwind, then a nice blast back to shore.

Brought the kite down and played with the VPC settings. For me, the middle setting worked best with a six inch rear pigtail for how the kite handled and developed power. Power strap about halfway, and same for steering straps.

Middle of the week is always the best... no crowds, few fishermen, and wide openbeach.

Too bad you did not get to see the city slickers get stuck in the soft sand like a few weeks ago. Always fun to watch.

True... But having a thousand yards between vehicles parked at the beach is priceless...
