2nd Kite Quandary

Hi Folks,

1st post from me here in Scotland. I dipped into the power kite market last year as I really fancied the idea of the wind tugging away at my arms whilst flying a kite. My lad was 7 at the time so I went with a 1.5 m radsail (stackable) for a paltry £49. Both my lad and myself can fly it great now keeping it in the air and maneuvering it across the window without any issues. It lives in my car, so whenever there's an opperchancity and the wind gets up it's out with the kite!

So I'd like to bump up my game and go four line, I'm also thinking 4m to give it the next step up. This will give me a bit more scope for lighter winds also I presume. I'm not going in the buggy or water direction so it will be scudding and maybe jumping in good time. Landboard may be another option in due course. I'm lucky in that I have a holiday home up in St Andrews which has a good well known for kiting beach (west). Also the open park space locally. I'm about 5.6ft and 60kgs.

In terms of kite specifics I obviously want to keep the budget to a minimum and I think the Beamer IV 4m fits the bill, I can obtain this new for just over £150, which I think is real good value. I also looked at the Flow but this is £55 more.

I've scouted the forums over the last few days and it's a real interesting read. Keep up the good work. Any pointers are much appreaciated!! (still to bring the subject up with the good lady, that I'd like to spend the hard eared on another kite!!) :o

Can you get the good lady to go kiting with you? If so, maybe the 3M Beamer would agree with her more, certainly the 8 yr old will get more use with a 3M, the 4M might be a little much, IMHO.

Both the Beamer and Hornet are good quality starters for about the same price, flying characteristics differ a little bit but you can't go wrong with either.
Difference in character as I've found it is that the beamer is a bit "sharper" while the Hornet offers a bit more stability, but for a first 4-line experience you'd really have to fly them side by side to notice.
A lot of people base their decision between the two on the graphics/colours.

Good luck finding your new toy and enjoy!

The Pepper II is cheaper still, what do you reckon? at £131 it's a pretty good 4 line starter. Quite forgiving from what I've been reading.

Well, I went for the 4m Flow after all that!! ;-) Got a real good deal at £169.99. Flown it already and I'm well please with the purchase.

Took me a wee while to get the controls right on the four line, but soon got the jist. Winds were perfect for the flow.

Is it wrong to giggle out loud when your on your own in the middle of an empty open space as your skidding along the wet grass. Brilliant. off to West beach St. Andrews later for the weekend. Happy flyin'!!
