Wrightsville Beach Buggy Ban (NC)

Does anyone know anything about the incidents (if any) leading to the buggy ban at Wrightsville Beach in NC?

Kite buggies get the boot from Wrightsville Beach

Use of kite buggies could be limited on Wrightsville Beach

Kite buggies get the boot from Wrightsville Beach
(excerpt: Kite buggies are lightweight go-cart-like structures that use kites instead of motors for movement, reach speeds up to 70 miles an hour and lift up to 15 feet off the ground.)

Sam

That sounds like the same language I got from the park ranger at Fort Clinch State Park in Florida. After I gave up reasoning with him, I told him that man can run a mile in under 4 minutes and can jump 8 feet in the air, but I had never done either and didn't expect to, following up that most of the time, my kids can run along beside me while I buggy. The impression from that quote in the above article is that they are continually flying 15 feet above the beach at 70 mph. Well who needs something on the beaches that does that? :duh::duh::crazy:

Meanwhile they think its perfectly alright to allow cars on their city streets capable of going over 200 mph.

I'm going the other way with it. "Dangerous" activities are banned in our parks. Every Park. Now, webster's defines "dangerous" as involving or causing danger or risk; liable to hurt or harm.

Next time they try to throw me out, I'm busting out statistics.

"* In the most recent NEISS survey, soccer continued to have one of the higher numbers of annual injuries. In the year, the estimated incidents of soccer-related injury were at a high 198,679. "

# The highest rates of injury occur in sports that involve contact and collisions.

# More severe injuries occur during individual sports and recreational activities.

# Most organized sports-related injuries (62 percent) occur during practice.

C'mon guys, you already allow dangerous activities on your land, don't make me be such a dick about this that I get soccer and baseball banned from public parks as well. (I would love this, as it would show the insanity of not allowing "dangerous activities" on their land.)

Now, I certainly ain't 15 feet in the air and I've never even been near half of 70mph.

I really hate disinformation.

Tide? What's a tide? Man, it's 1000 miles to any ocean.

The person that can go 70 mph and jump 15 feet in the air at the beach is real good. So good that in my 10 years of buggying I have not seen it.

They have a forum, I just saw flash posted, so I added my thoughts. If enough of us give sane comments, maybe the aldermen will relent. Imagine being the only buggy rider in an area(like me) and being told your best spot can no longer be used for your sport.

Quote:

The new ordinance forbids any wheeled vehicle propelled by wind through use of a kite, sail or any other device.

So this also bans ATBs :(
