The stock GPS app for iPhone is slooooow. The map is slow to refresh as I move and I will often be a dot on a blank graph paper. Maybe the #@%$#!ty
AT&T coverage.

Verizon Wireless ftw!
Motorola Droid GPS is awesome, and the Droid Incredible launches tomorrow (even better) Not to mention you are covered as far as 3G data transfer goes
just about everywhere you go. I use Speedometer v1.61 on my Droid, also TMJ (Track my Journey) both great apps. Can't say much as far as iPhone apps
go.

Dude go with an android phone. gps nav talking lady is built in and you can download a free app from android market by google that is called My
tracks....and I turn on that app while I kite and it shows my tracks on google maps with max and min speed and height right on my phone or computer..
so figgin easy. I just get home sign into google and there right there.. no need to plug phone into computer and download from phone. I have had
the iphone and its great but I like a qwerty keyboard. So I have both touch screen and board on my G1. :bisou:

If your thinking about the Iphone - I'd wait for the 4g to come out - later this summer or fall. As for the Droid - don't know, don't have one. The
hard part is that it's a serious chunk of change to throw down for a phone either way. The 4g will be faster than the 3gs, which I have used (I have
a 3g) and is faster than the 3g.
Comes down to the age old question -
"to mac, or not to mac?"
-Macboy
Just kidding Macboy - seemed fitting.
we all believe is called the expansion

hehehehe.......guilty. And unless youre talking iPad - the answer is ALWAYS to Mac :D
I heard there's an $80 app you can buy that is great for turn by turn GPS function (not sure about back country). The built in Google maps? Not bad
but as said earlier kinda not good either. I used it all over eastern Canada and it was great but the little dot doesn't give you any forewarning and
there were many turns I missed and had to circle back to get. Still, it worked and it was free (part of the plan).
That said, if you plan on using this for any US based GPSing.....no can do. Unless you wanna get raped on data roaming fees - hence the Verizon USB
stick I picked up while we were down there.
I'm one of the lucky ones though that locked into the contract that nets me 6 gigs worth of data transfer a month - you can bet I'll NEVER let that
contract slip away
My advice? If you want an iPhone because it's a cool device, get an iPhone. If you want a cell phone, get a cell phone. If you want a GPS to tell you
how to get to your hotel, get one of the $150 on-sale-at-Canadian-Tire-Best-Buy-or-Future-Shop Magellans or Garmins.
I dig my iPhone by the way........it's just that it's a cool device first, phone and GPS second. Guess the same would be true for Andriod.

My wife just bought the tom tom app for her iphone last week so I downloaded it on mine also. I haven't played with it much so i don't know how well
it works. I just tried it yesterday and it was working just like a tom tom. Talking, pictures the whole bit. I think she paid $60. We have unlimited
data so not sure if it uses data or not, but it makes no difference to me.

I have Tom Tom on my iPhone and it works great for driving, it downloads the maps to the phone so it eats up a gig of space but will work with or
without a cell signal. The only thing is it saps the battery so make sure you have a good car charger.

I Used to have an iPhone, and then changed over to Android (and also being an avid Android developer with 5 apps in the market) you should go with
Android. There is just so much more Android Apps can do for you, which is just restricted for the cool apple gang users. My 2 cents.

Do you want my iPhone for a week to play with?
If you really want a iPhone he new version is coming and has more life and an extra cam great for skype calls now. I can view dino's ugly mug on the
way home.
The gps build in sucks. It uses data as well so be warned.
For us using bell or rogers/fido we have the worlds stupidest data plans. They are also overpriced too. I have a 1gig data plan but I never go over.
Roger/fido use to have 6gigs for 30.00 but I hear it's coming back soon.
Another option is the android if your not app downloading freak. Some free apps are good but most suck. There are ways around paying for them,
jailbreak and shared accounts.

I don't know, I have the Moto Droid with the Android 2.1 system and a LOT of the apps have been free. I'm an app geek when it comes to my phone and
yes, some do suck but there are a lot of good ones
I would have to say the iPhone is still the app king but with the open development of the Android platform, the Droid is catching up quick.

I was referring to the iPhone apps that you ended up paying for, more than getting for free. So far I've spent over 200.00 in apps.
I might switch to the android when I see what the new iPhone brings first.

Wow I used to complain, but I guess I have it good over here. $30 unlimited data + $99 2000 min w/ rollover. I have gotten used to google maps and
don't really use anything else. Seems to be pretty acurate in this part of the states. I was a big hold out, never wanted to be part of the iPhone
craze, but now that Ive got one... Sheesh!! At least I can check PKF while sitting in NYC traffic...
