Bridging A 75lb Gap
I am currently getting ready to purchase a kiteboard kite that will function for both my wife and myself. I was guided towards a PL Charger and it
really appears to be what I want.
The problem lays in the fact that I can only buy one kite right now and my wife wants to fly too. She is at 130lbs....I am 200lbs. Is there a way to
make it work with one?
I looked at a 12M and it seems that I would have to fly in 15-20mph to get out of the water and she would need to fly in light winds 8-12mph to not be
overwhelmed.
I would appreciate anyone's advise or thoughts...I think board sizing could help bridge the gap but I don't know enough about it to be sure.
I certainly understand we will need two separate boards.

yes, that is correct buying a board is cheaper than getting two kites. she would ride a smaller board in high winds and you a larger board in low
winds.
however, keep in mind that the kite does have some adjustments too, and also if she feels overpowered there is bar trim as well. ive flown an arc way
outside the windrange to the point of danger and all i had to do was pull the trim strap all the way in. however the wind did pickup huge and lucky me
i had Bladerunner and TDMC96 around to hold me down. lol.

So a 12m can work for both of us...this is good news. I just need to mind the setup and board sizes...

@200lbs. myself , with a 12m has only been ok in 25/30mph plus. and that's with 1000's of hours on arcs on the water. a 15 is more your match if not
the 19m to start. the best i've had on the 12 was 30+ on flat water , it was delivering but hey it's 30 +
a nice wide board for yourself at least 42cm wide and 138cm + in length . your wife could ride just about anything ,like a 130-136 .
BUT at 130 your wife would have a blast on a 12m for sure. it would be super hot for her and quick! acceleration would be fast! a bit much for a
beginner though, def have to have kite skills together.
in 15-20 she would be holding alot , overpowered for a beginner. doable with the right skills.
you would get going ok on a light wind board with considerable kite work, with surf and current you would struggle to hold your position.
75lbs. is huge gap ..its doable with one kite and 2 boards but you would get the short end of the stick and she get the hot end.
a 10m and a 15m and one board (138x42) would be much better , everyone would get a GOOD ride in 15-20mph

Ok...so it really would be better with two kites...I knew that.....I just have to find the money I guess.
I figured this might be the case....it can be done...but it may be ugly. It just sucks that I have to dump 2600 bucks + boards so we can go out and
ride. I guess we will be buggying for a little while longer. Nothing wrong with buggying...just looking to get wet this summer. Also..we would be
riding lakes almost exclusively if/when we get set up.

i think if you let go of the Charger idea you both can get up and riding for half that. there are a lot of great deals on used kit here and a couple
of retailers still have brand new 12m syn's for around $700/800 or so IIRC... :dunno:

ah depower "mode" is a "trim" feature. 15m is gonna have a ton of power and the first "jet" launch she takes, ...doubtful if she''ll even entertain
getting on it again.
and in light air with depowered trim kite really is hard to work with.
just being hooked in @ 15-20 is gonna get YOUR attention, your wife would not be able to hold it, first gust and shes on a sky ride to get
slammed.
caution advised

I don't surf or pay attention to those kites and what are good and what aren't but I"m pretty sure I regularly see LEIs for sale on other forums for
just a few hundred bucks. You could maybe get 2 or 3 used LEIs for the price of a new charger.

10-4. Maybe used is the way to go. I was just worried that with the inflatable kites you have to worry about how many punctures the guy before you
put in it.
Phreerider....advise taken...we will not do that then. Maybe the synergy is a good option....I also saw one called a Wahoo or Waroo...a little cheaper
but I am not sure if it is a decent kite...I don't want to buy any crap.

My 15m Synergy takes about 10 kts to wake up but from there on the top end depends more on how far you have the guts to take it ! I'm pretty sure A 15
would also get you going in 10 on a big board? If I had to pick a single kite that will handle 2 weights at once in the greatest wind that would be
it ?
I will be interested in trying the 15m Charger to see if it is as unforgiving as Phreerider describes ? I know my 10 kind of fits that bill. If that
is the case then The 15m Syn truly is a special / forgiving kite. My kind of kite !!!
I don't know about inflatables enough to comment.
Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
