Kiting on the Icecap this weekend
Hey folks,
so Pemberton Games Festival starts this weekend, and one of the events (as I shared before) is snowkiting at the Pemberton Icecap!!
We have two options to get there:
by plane:
Dale Douglas Tyax Air Service Ltd. 7289 Fitzsimmons Rd. South Whistler, B.C. Canada V0N 1B7 Tel: 250-238-0177 $100 per drop off per person
(so $200 if you want to be picked up as well per person)
And by snowmobiles up the Ruthorford Creek. Conditions are not the best, we will need to cross couple water streams, but it will be interesting.
I am organizing rides up (and drop-offs), so if anybody interested give me a call at 778.895.9370 or email at Code: | tonya At skycountry.ca |
so I know how many people are attending and I can send you info where to meet.
As also shared before I will be providing de-power AlaSCas for those who don't have anything suitable at the moment or who wants just to try.
Cheers,
Tonya

this an event or just some demo to show product and the sport?
just an odd question, if i only pay the $100 can i snow-kite back to civilization or basically I have to pay the $200? :puzzled:
what are the wind conditions?
is there a website for some details on this.

Everything. But it looks like most kite riders come with their own rig.

good question.
You will need to hike 20k down the Ruthorford Creek trail which has been plowed for all 16K up to the Ruthorford cabin.

I wish I knew. We will set up dates and time, but will check the wind the night before.

Same pembertongames.com
But there is not much there about this event, that is why I am here and on the other forums.

I am now booked to support the Washington beach effort. I hadn't heard anything from you but did get messages from Fletch so commited to his effort.
As you know I'm BIG on trying to open Pemberton. Good winds and good luck with the event. I hope it helps us set up for next year!

Let me know if you are going + how the conditions are! :bouncy:
If we fly in is that from Van or Pemberton? $100 each way from Van wouldn't be unreasonable. + very convenient.

Very Cool!
Speed flying makes sense with your combined background but I think I'll be pretty far back in the line up of people who want to try?
Way to go !!!! :wee:

You are right Bladerunner, I was fine because I am a paraglider pilot (and a good one). I even managed to handle the faster glider (12 versus 15 for
beginners) for my first time. But I will tell you I was wiped out several times, especially when you have to turn quick in a narrow run going 40k/h
But overall I was absolutely thrilled and dreaming about it all weekend!
There were some riders willing to try; it is doable but on the baby runs.
