Happy father's day. I hope he was alright. You should get him a brain bucket and pads for dad's day. Nice addition to the hall of shame.

Like I always say stay squared up to the kite and your feet in front of you as much as you can.... I m sure it hurt his pride more than his body.... People don't understand what you mean when you tell them you fly kites.....

Seeing that scuttle reminded me of my first days....it took a while to get used to the art of the scud. I ran the heck out of my little feet for the first good while.

I wonder how many people get into kiting and don't realize that that kinda thing could happen. It should be a pretty obvious one, no? I wouldn't have thought my little 3m could launch me until it did.

Pretty sure you can generalize it past just kiting. We are the lead characters in our own lives, so I don't generally think we have a real good handle on bad things happening to us... or at least as good a handle as we should.

Hence the pre-disposition of the brain to killing the soundtrack during most accidents and saying:
"Scr3w this.... I'm going to my happy place... back later. P.S. What were you thinking?!?!"

There are exceptions: people that work in emergency services of any kind, people that live in war zones or places with a high incidence of natural disasters, etc.

Things were probably a bit different when the daily commute involved getting chased by a T-Rex or folks with flaming arrows.

Youtube is absolutely glutted with folks underestimating kites of all sizes. In some cases, the smaller ones give the illusion that they are safe in winds that have cleared the area of most sane 2 or 4 legged creatures.

Sorry... couldn't resist.

ATB,
Sam

correct.... i watched as many videos as possible --then i put off flying my first kite for 3 weeks after i purchased it--the videos i watched had me so scared--which actually was a good thing for me as i was extremely cautious in the early days of kiting......turns out,i launched the kite and scudded a few feet thru the snow and fell down--it was a beamer 3m--after that i was hooked.......
