Need real world landing advice for flysurfer pulse

My new to me pulse 10 just arrived from Australia... Poor thing, its little wings are tired from the long flight...

Low winds-- Stall land it w/outside line landing loops and stake them and go secure the kite?????

High winds-- I hate the thought of just pulling the safety and letting it flutter to the sand on the 5th line.....Any other options??

There was no wind today, but I had to take it to the beach and unroll everything and look at it.... It had better get used to having sand on it, its a way of life around here.... I'll see how my packing was next time, hopefully not a tangled mess.......

Seems to me its just like parapacking a buggy kite...we'll see..

Good question. An assisted land is the best from my experience. There are hand graphics that let the assistant know where to grab. this has been good at an LEI site where they are all used to the assisted landing and launching protocol. They don't know what to make of the Arc. Let the assistant know ahead of time to put sand on the wingtip and even unzip.

Also I have been resorting to the 5th line a lot recently when I have been on my own. In lighter winds you can walk up the line hand over hand and then unzip. Last weekend there was too much wind to grab the line so I looked around on shore and found a driftwood stump that I clipped the 5th line to and then ran to the kite and unzipped.

The Pulse wants to get up in the air fly which is great when you crash on the water but not so great when using on land and you want it to stay put. I bought the Pulse and then went for the open cell Apex II for buggying on land. Now I am using the Pulse to get on the water.

There is also a way to grab both the brake/steering line loops and make the kite stall land in moderate winds. I have not done this with the Pulse. It is the way I always land the Apex II. Big difference between closed cell and open cell foils.

Take it down one side or the other . If you have an assistant have them grab it. This is the safest way. If no assistant take it down the side and then go to 5th line. Moderate and even slightly strong wind . Back it down .

Once it is down , wrap the brakes around your stake and then T the bar behind the stake to keep the front lines =.

Flysurfer has a lot of good how to videos online.

ditto... i find myself amused at the looks i used to get from tube fliers... they just dont know what to do with flysurfers or arcs... i find it easier to self land than give somebody a tutorial everytime i want to land my kite

just make sure you are totally clear of any sharp objects on your landing surface

What technique do you use for inverting or putting the leading edge down?
In strong winds won't the kite just move, with you as the center, from the edge of the window.
With the Arc it is easy to flag it out. The Flysurfer keeps its shape.

fds on flysurfers (with FDS) flags the kite out from center... arcs flag from one side... they both keep their shape until you unzip them...

i dont invert, but fly to side and activate safety... secure the safety line, get to kite and unzip... do not lollygag until you get them unzipped

I can't see how the pulse won't start rolling over itself if brought to the edge of the window and then flagged on the 5th line. Its a great way to land the kite but if the ground wind is shifting or if its a gusty day you're going to want to get to the kite quick before it rolls too many times over the bridle. Its kind of a pain which is why once I start flying, I don't stop to pee, eat, drink, talk, etc as I don't like securing the kite on high wind days (says the man whos has had the pulse pull his ground stake out of the ground 2 or 3 times until he finally decided to always stake it out on the fifth line once landed and pull the brake lines back some so the kite is semi on the 5th line and semi on the brakes and then I pile sand on the TE).

Light wind days you can just back it down on the rear lines and stake it through the chicken loop and pull the rear lines back over the stake and the kite usually stays well put. The higher the wind the greater the challenge.

YES there is a bit of a chance for a roll on the fifth line. Same when I drop my arc in a similar fashion.
I try and tip the nose down just before I hit the fifth line then try and move myself more upwind keeping some tensinon on the fifth. If I can't back it down it is so windy I'm just happy to get the kite on the ground and can accept some minor line management later.

I am far less likely to fly overpowered if I'm alone so usually I take advantage of my buddy when overpowered. That is the safe way.:bigok:

Pull the safety! If no one is there to land you and yer at all sketched about backing it down or anything, just dump the safety.. or if yer like me and are lazy about putting yer loop back together, I like to just undo the DD and take the loop off instead of pulling safety.

Had the speed 17 out yesterday and flew to the edge, got the leading edge on the ground and let it go to 5th line... Kept tension on line and kite didnt roll or twist..... It looks like a small skyscraper sitting there on its wingtip................
