Used the deck and trucks from my skateboard, went to the hardware store and got extensions and lawnmower wheels, have a block of wood for spacing to turn. I mounted my old shoe on the front, tied with shoelace, this acts as a binding, and I will be able to jump in the air with it. I kept my left foot free, this way I can step around if I lose balance, and fall safetly.

The wheels were $43 in total. The hardware was under $5

Just completed it today, have not used it yet.

Lets see that baby, snap a pic or two.

Its always nice to put together something even better if it works.

I like it I'd be a bit worried about one foot in though ... twisted knee looks likely

+1 on the twisted knee, especially if the board starts torquing with any momentum in mid-air.

what are those extensions made of? Now I'm worried for your safety, a land board isn't something to DIY.
Injury almost guaranteed:o I wouldn't ride it for money.

my first thought is a memory of falling when getting off a chair-lift while snowboarding. One fit strapped in, one free. The twist was horrendously painful. If you can, I'd look at putting some straps on there, instead of the shoe as a binding. Something you can slip out of easily.

Curious idea, I'm just worried about that free leg, and the possible torque to your knee...

I applaud your effort and ingenuity.

You could crank out some DIY bindings with angle iron from the hardward store and webbing from a boat or possibly a hardware store. Or you could use a bolt sheethed in PVC to act as a post and put the webbing over the top of that - just leave the bolt just shy of the height of your shoe. You could even add velcro to make it adjustable if you are OK with sewing.

Those appear to be the turn buckle style nuts. Long with threaded holes on each end.

Might work for learning some down wind riding while being pulled by a kite.

Twisted knee is def. a fear...also i am very worried about the 8mm skate truck axle. There is going to be so much leverage on them even riding under any force will most likely bend the axles.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT! That mounted sneaker is a knee injury for sure. Go with straps.
10 years ago a girl on the chair ahead of me falls on the bottom of the hill getting off the lift. All I see is poles and skis sticking up and I try to avoid her. The board turns one way and I fall the other, poping my knee, tearing the MCL. 1st run of the day and I end up going down on the lift. Surgury and PT fixed that up good as new. The other knee still bothers me from a motorcycle highside at the track 6 years ago. Did'nt seem as bad as the other, so I limped around for a few weeks and never had it checked out. Maybe I shoulda.

Kinda sketchy to think what could happen, with one foot strapped in. Maybe you could cut the toe and heal of the shoe off and bolt it in place, then do the same with the other shoe to have a set of lace up bindings. Just remember to leave them loose so that you can ditch the board if #@%$#! hits the fan. Nice try though. Would say that it would be best to check the for sale section from time to time as often enough good deals on ATB show up.

Actually it worked out great, I think the axel extensions would bend if I jumped too hard but it's proven itself worthy. Now I am going to make a few changes. I just removed the wood block spacers, and places the trucks at each tip end of the board so I have foot room. ( looks and handles more like mountainboard now). I am going to make rubber bindings unless I find something else. It's easier slipping your foot out of a binding than a shoe on the deck.

Will update pictures when its completed.

here is the finished product without bindings. I tried it on a big downhill stretch and it handles and performs great! Its pretty rugged, all though I think the axel extensions would bend if i landed hard off a jump... but thats a .50 cent replacement as long as I dont get hurt.

PS I have an old leather belt im making bindings out of.

the solid 1x4 help the board not bend, which it does not now. and the turning is much better with this design. again it is very studry compared to how it looks. i gave it a rough test

really good effort, but ride it hard for 10mins and it will be in pieces. sideways stress on the wheels, very weak trucks and zero flex in the board.
ill take bets on the 4x1 going first!!

Did some pretty hard mountainboarding with it, held up great! Handles just like a legit board. Took it kiteboarding, works great, nice and solid.

PS due to the concave skateboard deck, the 1x4 wont have any stress on it. Plus it's pressure treated wood and almost unbreakable. I would put my money on the truck extensions to go, everything else is rock solid.

dont mind the dog hah, and yes my bindings are a leather belt, adjustable too :D hahaha

Find an old cheap plastic snowboard , they usualy have very simple plastic slip in straps that you can use on your diy board.
