there are quite a few guys that find using a skim board gives them the best light wind performance for kite boarding. Shallow water - yes it's doable
but if you bottom out you take a bigger risk of injury if you are traveling at speed. You don't even have to be going fast to be unlucky with a bad
twist. Jim Everding (who, some on PKF know) broke his leg last week with a bad fall on a new twin skim - Jim makes Jellyfish boards, here is picture
of the twin skim they made for a friend with his company logo. He does a great job on a variety of board styles.

thanks for your helpful advice every one I decided to do a little research and my noobish advice i came up with was that putting surf board wax on
your skim boars top AKA the part you stand on helps your feet stay on the board go figure:eureka:

i got a sheet of black magic (grip tape) on my skimmy. works like butter.
man i love my skim in the surf. in 15mph winds, on my 12m Havoc(LEI) i can cut super far up wind. theres nothing like riding a skim on a kite
strapless. it feels like your riding a giant butter knife while slicing through a warm stick of butter

:eekdrull:This brings many questions....
How does one keep the board on their feet when jumping. Also how would one do a water start if they bail in slightly deeper water??

just pure skill, hes just usig the wind to keep it pressed against his feet. skimmers are very light so its like waving a sheet of paper against your
palm. the paper just sticks to your hand.

on 48 sec.mark...
first of all, a skim or the directional in hi wind like that is hard to manage, if you have a flat spot like that yeah its fun.
looks like he started a carving turn but TOO HOT and aborted before kite goes around. not really a trick more of "holy chit no way i can keep it
together" move and thats what you get in the last sec correction.

I was wondering what a good type of kite is for this type of kite boarding the cheaper the better i don"t even have my first kite beacause I orderd a
trainer kite online and they ran out of that type so I canceled the order now i'm looking for a intermidiate kite that will get me into the sport that
I can use for a long time in many wind condition, I bought some cheap two line kites to practice maneuvering

noob kiter ,u r lookin 4 the magic kite. When ya find it,let us all know where to get one. Start small get skilz and exp. ,then get somethin bigger
and work your way up.That is the smart safe way.:wee:
Or you could get a kite that will show you what your FEMUR looks like. Personally ,I'm not that curious!

i want to help you out but you have to make sure to be specific when asking questions.
example:
what are your locations typical wind speeds
are you inland or ocean side
when you say playing around in a field that contradicts your other post of body dragging.
if you feel like jumping, or just want a kite that will muscle you around in your backyard, go with a 5 meter pansh ace from panshkites.com

An ace 5m for learning skim boarding ?
I can agree that the 5m ace has a great wind range and is the cheapest kite you can imagine but it will serve up mucho agro trying to learn in the
water ? It is made for land only ! Riding a 5m open cell on a skim board ( ask Flash Austin ) is possible but not suggested.
Looking at my bridles on my 5 I would bet BIG money they would stretch if wet and stressed.
You need to make up your mind about the water thing ?
In my experience you should be looking for a QUALITY used kite with pro' repairs online. You get what you pay for in this sport buying new. Repaired
kites draw less interest and can be a real bargain. If you want to end up on the water , get a water kite !
Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.
Flysurfer : 19m Speed 2 SA, 7m Pulse
Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.
Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .
