Well I now know why everyone else loves soccer pitches. West winds yesterday made me decide to give the soccer field a go. At 3:30 canceled my hair appointment to go fly and off the field I went. The field consists of three pitches side by side separated by bleachers. A group was practicing in the most west so after talking to one of the coaches there went to the farthest East. Not a ton of room but with 23km/h winds was able to get enough speed to get the wobble before having to go the other way. Played for about 2 hours when I noticed around 5:30 many other people showing up. Assuming that there was a game gonna happen I begun packing up to avoid confrontation. I landed and secured kite and packed up harness and safety gear. While folding up my kite a gentlemen pulled up in his truck with a load of kids. Carrying his bag of balls he started towards me. Once close he stated " Nice day for that I assume" I replied "yeah I've had a pretty good time this afternoon" the man then replied "its also a nice day to play soccer so get the hell out of here we have a game" I replied well I assumed that and was just packing up so don't worry about it" his reply "this is a soccer field not a #@%$#!ing skate park" then he kept walking. I asked another of the coaches if there was any issues that I was there when it wasn't in use and he said that if it wasn't in use then it was public ground for anyone to use at their will as long as it wasn't damaged. The other coach was just another volunteer like the rest of them.

I now know why the lush clean fields are liked by you guys makes for a fun ride. Never imagined that in my town I would be confronted with such hostility. I don't really plan on using the field much as the bleachers really get in the way. Wish there were other places like that but more open in my town.

Sorry for the rant but it was getting to me and had to share.

The world is fully of petty tin gods.... in your case someone apparently thinks a whistle grants them more authority than he actually holds.

If the bleachers make the field unsuitable, it's all good.

If you need to go back, just check with someone in the Parks and Rec dept that actually has some say in the rules governing field usage.

But.... and I can't stress this enough, make sure you go back armed with a soccer whistle with Hooj Ballz. That way your words can automatically become law too.

retard coaches assume it is they (teams) whom "OWN" the fuggen fields and are the bosses of all who dare tread there. they assume we believe that bullshid too.
the only reason the idiots act like that is cuz the team/club books the field to use at certain times. so they have a right to be there "at certain times". form a kite club and you can book the fields as well.
*just for shids an giggles*...next time tell the idiot(s) you booked the field for the afternoon and they have to find somewhere else to play. i'd bet money most teams don't book every single game/practice cuz they simply assume once they get out of their car everyone will just clear out. if idiot chirps, demand to see the proof that he has rights to the field. even if fug-face has booked it U'll at least get a laugh at his spiked blood pressure and red face and he'll know your not a retard who has no knowledge of rights and you won't be pushed around by a piss-ant like him.

or ask the town/city to find you some other 'suitable' location to ride. you might be surprised...i was.

Now I understand why dads get into fist fights with each others during these kid games!

Yeah I wasn't all that irritated that they had a game, kinda expected that it was gonna happen. What got me the most was the guy approaching me like that when there were tons of other people there already and they didn't seem to care. I'm gonna head to the parks and rec and get a schedule cause these games take up every single field in town every single evening. If it's not soccer it's baseball or both. Half of them don't have soccer nets they bring their own and take over the place. I get it too that I'm the only one in town who uses the fields the way I do but still. It's maddening cause the lake is an hour away so I can't exactly go there after work if it's blowing.

I just gotta buy a huge rolling section of land that I can smooth out and hire someone to cut the grass once every two weeks. Then I can have all the play area I want

Phreerider is right....knowledge is power. Make sure you know all the rules pertaining to your use of the field AND the requirements for them. That way when you can tell him how he is the one outside the rules (didn't book the field etc...) or that you have every legal right to be there. (city owned park)

If you have done your research and know FOR SURE you are in the right a real shocker is to tell him to just go ahead and call the cops b/c your not leaving. Just make sure you brought some supporting documentation (city ordinances, club bi-laws,etc.) to present to the officers. Remember to ALWAYS interact calmly and logically with the officers. Cool heads prevail in these types of interactions with the police. They are going to side with what the law says and if you have your facts straight it is the coach acting like a hothead who is going to get himself in trouble. Remember if you loose your cool you can go to jail for it!!!! Stay calm!!!

If the officer does not side with you even though you are right just tell him that you disagree with his interpretation of the situation but will gladly leave simply because he is asking you to. Then you will need to talk to someone above him in the rank structure to make your argument later.

One other thing...make sure when you look into who has legal authority at the area be mindful that while it may be city property there are many times lease agreements signed by soccer (or other) groups to use the land. That typically gives them authority over the property.

Interesting, reminds me of the civic lesson I got while working for the US Census recently. 96% of the people were totally cool, polite and cooperative. 3% were a little miffed with me at first but in the end were polite and cooperative. Just 1% were angry/ rude/ hostile and where did I find them? Not in the housing projects, not in the ghettos, not in the overgrown rusted out trailer parks, but in the middle and upper class subdivisions and "nice neighborhoods".

One time a workmate and I got screamed at and chased out of a neighborhood by a hostile woman. We each hightailed it in our own cars and she was yelling out her car all the way and holding her phone camera out the window taking pictures of our plates. When we got to a safe distance and the coast was clear, my workmate pulled up in her car and said. " I recognize that lady from church. That's the preacher's wife".

I would have though the difficult ones were spread across the demographic spectrum and never would have though to find it clumped in the "nice neighborhoods".

Later when we were assigned work and the boss would warn us of "rough neighborhoods" I'd jump and say "Give it to me. That's where the nice people are!"

Yeah that's generally how things work in my town. We are a city of about 30k that is comprised mostly of oil patch workers who get paid pretty decently. To put it in picture for you half of the kids when they get their drivers license end up driving 30-60k cars and trucks because mom and dad bought it for them. Due to this economy there is a high level of arrogant smug citizens who think that if you are not in their circle then you are below them and thus don't belong. In my town money talks and if you don't have it then you are usually on the sidelines.

i remember doing book reports on places around the world when i was in elementary school. the assignments typically included things like population, industries, if the place is economically wealthy or not and other stuff. i'm sure you and your kids did/do/will do the same stuff in school
i found all the pertinent info in an encyclopedia or two. (i'm 39 there was no www back then). as i recall my (and all other kids) assignments were basically comprised of info (gathered)copied from encyclopedias with added hand drawn graphs/charts and some pictures clipped from magazines.
where does the info come from that the encyclopedias contain?
if i remember right the last time the census folks came around to my house they asked how many people live here and how much household income was how old we all were.
when thinking about what harm this census info can do to me or other i come up with nothing. maybe you could enlighten me as to what harm this census info can do me or others.

I found a grass air strip on Google Earth and decided to go have a look today. Its in a one horse town about 20 miles away.

Well when we rolled up we found a wrought iron fence around the strip, yard and rest of the land. Video camera at the locked gate.

Wonder if I'd got an ear full by asking those folks. I didn't notice any machine gun nest but I bet they were there.

Do a Google search on "(countyName), SC GIS" and you can look up the property and find the owner of record and their address. Then do a reverse address search on WhitePages.com and try and get a phone number. County records are not always up to date but it is a good place to start.

are you sure your property is that private? the reason i ask is i get hassled quite a bit when i go onto supposed "private property" to perform my job. thing is every single property that has a gas service on it has a contract signed that states i am allowed at any time day or night with no notification of any kind onto the said property to access my facilities. i guess you'd probably have a word or whatever else waiting for me if i came on your private property when perfectly within my rights to do so.

Whoa dudes!!! I'm sorry I never wanted it to come to a debate like this. I was only meaning to share how my session ended. I don't even plan on using the place again so I'm not too worried about it, just going down to the parks and rec so I can get some insight on when other places will be used so I can avoid the whole ordeal in the first place. I think that its time to just put this thread to a rest so we can all worry about kiting instead. No need to start an argument over this.
