Looks like a great time. I went to Arcs and still haven't tried any jumps.

Think I would in soft sand like that, but the ground here is like concrete.

I really want to try some jumping with the 19m but can't find the right wind, more so I'm still new to the kite.

Could you try that again in a furry bunny suit.... just to see if it makes you jump higher?

Purely for scientific reasons, of course.

that's exactly what i did in deep snow last winter. then i changed it up a bit.
while the kite is high above fly kite out to edge of window until it starts to stall then use gravity and get it turned back towards center of window. after the turn the kite is now low but picking up speed moving fast towards max power center of wind window. once kite is about dead center of window crank it hard straight up and awaaaaaaay you go superman. you have the timing or this figured out.
cool. makes me want to get out my 17m Spd.

That was a total bottom end light wind day ... just a few knots up from the kite not flying at all. The bits that got chopped from the video are like me looping the kite and having to pull on the leader to get it around :dunno:
... 2 weeks back, I was on the beach after a kitesurfing session, started doing some jumps with the Speed again ... the backstall jumps were crap in the higher wind - kite wouldn't stall  - so I started doing pendulums ... holy #@%$#!! I was all hyped up after a good session riding but now I was really flying! No camera around though  I swear, they were much less lame!

Paul - that's what I was doing with the 12m Phantom, but it's got nothing on the Speed! And if it's hauling my hefty ass in the air that easy ... well, look out

Hardrock - pendulum jumps or the Revpaul Method work really well with the 19m Synergy, I spent a bit of time with that too, being a spaz on the beach. Now I've got a bunch more hours experience jumping, I'm really getting into it :D

iWolf - just ... no dude

Cool...but i can't claim to have thought it up. I just was goofing around and trying different things for fun since i had a deep snow for cushion. I think early days of foil jumping they called it "pit" jumping. dig a hole (pit) in the sand to brace yourself and let fly.
I had a Pu13m, 12m Pu2 and the winds eventually picked up enough that I unrolled a 7.3m Frenzy. It was a learning day. I just flew the kites as fast and hard as I could to see what was what. ie they turn tighter when bar is pulled in but slow down a lot more etc., etc.. stuff i've read before but never really just plain old worked out in my own head. I usually just set up kite, go and pay no more attention to kite other than keeping it off the ground and out of trees, goal posts, and grandstands.
I'd say pendulum is the way to go for jumping. i wouldn't have been pit jumping the superman technique if i couldn't have held the kite back enough until it gained sufficient altitude before lift off and i didn't have a soft surface for landing. I was huge scudding that day too.

Yeah I remember seeing the pit jumping way back in the 90's :o
The bigger pendulum jumps were much more managable but due to the slow turning of the Speed (I think!) on the redirect, I was getting twisted around and landing sideways, which bothered me ... it was that or lots of leg waving to straighten up :D
There wasn't actually enough wind that day to even scud more than a couple of feet ...!

.....don't ever try a 19m Sp2 SA you'll buy it on the spot.....
i'm not a practicing jumper just get the itch occasionally.
i thought static jumping was going to be whole lot "magically" easier/foolproof with such a massive 17m Speed 1.5 vs the 12m Frenzy, 12m Pu2 and 13m Pu so far. i was wrong. the 17m was sent to me from Powerzone and was freshly tuned for "faster turning" ha ha ha!!!!. i can't imagine what turning speed would be when tuned otherwise.
anyhoo- static pendulum jumping with the 17m was not near as easy as i assumed. i could not get the timing down too slow i guess or i wasn't doing it right or trying hard enough.... i could only manage lift off less than half of attempts. (i am not a jumper) then i got the 19m Spd2 SA and assumed it would be even slower and harder to time jumps...WRONG...i easily managed to get about 8 out of 10 tries right out of the box. the Speed 2 is just a different beast i guess.

I was doing some small jumps at the bottom end of the v19. Pendulum jumps are swinging fun but you'll get much better jumps if you take the kite up fast from 10 and just take two steps back, resist to load the kite, and jump when you feel the kite loaded. You'll get plenty height and distance :o) oink!

Wasn't enough wind on that day for that ... and it doesn't seem to work with the Speed - I personally don't think it turns fast or well enough. The arcs work just great for that method though!

Awesome jumps, Kami! Not to steal the spotlight, but I had some nice controlled jumps just like those a few days ago with my Boxer SLE on the beach at Staten Island. I too was trying the back stall --> shoot up to zenith --> power up technique, but found that it was more effective to start at the edge of the window (about 3 or 9 o'clock), fly through the window slightly depowered, then power up and resist as I redirect up to zenith. Finding the sweetspot when to jump is the difficult part. That's really the only way I know how to static jump when the wind is too strong to back stall it down to the ground. What really helped was the fact that I was flying on the beach, and the winds were much more consistent and clean than what I'm used to. It was a nice change of pace, and really helped me learn to control the jumps more. I'm feeling more comfortable with the jumps every time I get out there.

Yeah, seems like different kites like different methods eh :)
Never thought I'd be much interested in static jumping but it's great practice for riding - I remember when I started that I'd freeze when my board came off the water ... now I know what to expect, it's much more fun :D

I think it's one of my favorite kiting activities so far, but then again I haven't successfully ridden much. There were a few good buggy runs that were awesome. Jumping is a great way to learn the potential of the kite and learn control. With static jumping practice, you turn the skills into natural reaction and habit.
