Ive been dabating with myself over the leash

So i lost a board a couple of months ago and i thought that i needed to buy a leash.

when i started researching, of course, the old issue of them being extremely dangerous came into play. i honestly didnt see a problem until i put one on... i noticed the slingshot effect one of my first wipeouts... no harm done

so i did more research... a reel leash.. a reel leash with bungee... a go joe... a makeshift gojoe type thing...

enter today.... i decide to go leashless... thank God... twice there were issues that had i been using a leash, could possibly have ended very badly...

the day ender was a sudden gust paired with a change of direction that lofted me pretty much onto shoreline... went from 12 to 25 and side on to right on... first oh-#@%$#! moment... only lost some skin, but had that board been attached to my foot... who knows

anyway... debate is over... no leash for me...

UK ski centres have started demanding that all snowboarders use leashes - alledgedly to prevent runaway boards injuring people...

its so stupid. The fecking thing is strapped to your feet anyway.

I keep thinking about using one on my kitesurf board but it seems dangerous on land

Board leashes at US ski resorts have been demanded for quite some time. I cant recall being somewhere where the ski patrol didnt give people a hard time about it, or threaten to take gear/passes away from riders without them.

In their defense, I have seen boards runaway. I know they are strapped to your feet, but sometimes people, for whatever reason, stand up, and take their feet out of the straps. Miss something for a second, and the board takes off without you... Not pretty. The other argument is while you are on the lift. What if your binding straps broke? Wouldnt take much for that board to plummet down and land on someone below you. Now that would be UGLY.

I always ride on snow with a leash. On water, no chance in hell. Only in very rare circumstances do I ride in a place where I could lose my board. I've had a couple close calls, but always gotten my stuff back (even though I had to go running over a mile down the beach once to rescue my board before it hit rocks...)

When I decided to go against the grain and use a leash I bought a real leash and shock cord to reduce the odds of it going wrong. I refuse to sell my real leash but then again I DID get knocked in the head by my ski when we still leashed them ! :duh:

Look at it like kite killers. Worth the risk and agro to self to save your investmant until you outgrow it ? :puzzled:

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.

Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.

Not like kite killers IMHO BR - the KKs wont load and pop a board at your face. As soon as you can body drag (which again IMHO should be before you touch a board) you don't need a leash. If you don't have the kite skills to body drag, you shouldn't be in the water.

Leashes on snowboards - PAH! I've seen many skis running down the hill with nobody in them, never seen a snowboard. Sounds like another B.S. way to hassle the skater dudes. But then, don't start me on retarded #@%$#!ing snowboarders ...!

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...
