I'm fairly new to landboarding and started on a 4m foil, I quickly got a depower, the 15m phantom.

Problem is 15m is quite big, it seems massive after a 4m foil even though I know the lengths cant be compared and it can depower a lot.

I've had it up in 10-14mph a few times fine, but I want something smaller I feel more comfortable with to use until I feel happy, then I can start using the phantom in higher winds and keep the smaller kite as a high wind kite.

So, any recommendations? I was thinking about a 9m phantom/10m guerilla/Arc 630/10m venom or something?

If I get PL it'll help me get used to the Arc design and I can get it kite-only and use my current bar and lines so I'm leaning that way at the moment.

You can't have a 9m Phantom - I deserve one before you do

there is a 10m PL vortex in a thread titled "garage sale" by ataut.verde in the for sale section....

its the only arc currently for sale that doesnt have significant overlap with your phantom... remember that the phannys actually have a higher need for wind because of their high ar profile... they simply need more wind...

however... it may just be that a 10m vortex (or similar) just wont acvt right in 10 mph winds... you may just be better off becoming more comfortable under the phantom...

i take mine up to 15 mph pretty reg on an atb... after that, t does get a little hairy... but i think that a smaller kite might just not be very functional for you at all in sub 15 mph winds

Hmm thanks for the input, I guess an arc that'll sit 15-25mph would do the trick. Your right though I do need to get more comfortable with the phantom.

Maybe I'm just annoyed, went to the beech wanting to fly the phantom (35 min drive) yesterday, was 17mph gusting to 23mph and I pooped myself just thinking about the phantom

Saying that, some guys with LEIs were up using 11/13ms, and someone had a 9m phantom and a 10m venom up.

well.. you were right not putting the 15 up for landboarding in that wind... i consider myself experienced, and i wouldnt have, either

.. maybe you should get a kitesurfing board instead of a new kite!... those are pretty solid conditions for the water, for me anyways... dont listen to anyone who says the phantom is a land-only kite...

I've been kiting on and off just over a year, had the phantom for nearly 6 months but I've only got it airborn 4-5 or so times. I tend to end up on my own somewhere, or with to much/not enough wind so I end up using the 4m foil since its quick and easy plus I know what I'm doing with it.

I'm sure once I've got the phantom up on my own and had a few proper sessions with it I'll start using it a lot more.

I'm living in Taunton, about 35 minutes drive from Weston Super-mare in the UK, which has a dedicated wind-zone on the sand.

I do plan on getting in the water with it sometime, probably aim for next summer now though, concentrate on getting competent on land till then and hopefully starting a new job in the next few weeks so I can treat myself to £150-200 in second hand kite :singing:

A 10m arc would be a good choice for the high ends you are describing. I have a 16m and a 10m Scorpion and both are quite fun. Each has a very wide wind range with lots of overlap in the ranges.

I don't board--I just buggy-- but I have found the primary differences between the two are low end power and turning speed. The 10m is a lot faster to turn than the 16, but the 10 does not provide a lot of acceleration at low speed if the wind is at the low end of it's range. That said the top speed of the bug is seems to be the same. At speed the turning rates still differ, but otherwise they feel like much the same kite--it's just a matter of setting the depower correctly.
