Burning Man for kite buggying?

All,
brand new n00b kite buggy-er wannabe here:roll:

I fell in love with kite buggying when i saw a few out in the black rock desert at burning man 2 years ago.

I don't have a kite, but i have a flexifoil trike that i use for paramotoring, dont know how to kite buggy (yet), but am hoping to pick it up very quickly over the next few weekends and take my rig to Burning man.

I realize that the winds are really high there during the day, the sand/hard pack is tricky surface, there are people,
BUT
if i stayed within my limits with a beginner kite, buggy only in calm winds of early evening and late morning, and far away from the playa and people, is it doable? advisable at all?

I plan on learning on a Prism Tensor. My ultimate flying sites are going to be ocean beach here in SF, and surrounding coastal areas.

You might want to confirm the rules in effect with the DMV Hotties (dmv (at) burningman.com).

This is definitely something you should read:
BLACK ROCK CITY VEHICLE PROTOCOLS

Search the forum. This topic came up before. I think there is some requirement to be naked, high and on fire in order to buggy.

If the "naked" is a hard requirement, hopefully there are some aesthetic requirements too.

It would be nice to think that we can at least take away some life lessons from Walmart:

Bummer. By this definition, kite buggying is out on 3 counts!

Wind-powered vehicles allowed in Black Rock City must have the following characteristics:

* An effective mechanical braking system
* A pivoting mast
* Weight of no more than 50 pounds; an additional 30-50 pounds should be allowed for small trailers (in general, the vehicle should be easily hoisted above the head of the operator)
* Operational only while operator is standing

Hmmmm.... would have to retrofit a braking system.

I think this reply from Dino in another thread last year makes the most sense:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Kite buggy and kite powered vehicles, boards, etc. are NOT allowed at Burning Man.

So, if you do bring your stuff, be super ultra cool.

In fact, if you'll drop by 3:00 and Esplanade, the Department of Tethered Aviation will advise you on the best way to proceed. Ask for Paperboy.

You Are allowed to buggy outside of the city. Exit via the airport, ask for TigerTiger and make sure you get a wrist band and have your ticket with you.

Please, please, please DO NOT BUGGY OR LANDBOARD in the city without speaking to some veterans, we've been working on solving this problem for over ten years and it's complicated as hell(i wish it wasn't).

Much politics are involved, competing interests, and weird random factors involving a piece of wind powered sculpture that got loose and ended up making mayhem with a chain saw reaction. I'm not kidding here.

Okay, that said, do i bring my buggy? Of course, the most amazing place in the world to buggy.

If i do it do i do it super extra slow, and steer wide of everyone? Yes, no freestyle please, no air, no radical action. There are a million eyes watching and they have had some major bad juju cause problems, please do not make US look bad.

Remember, when you fly a kite at Burning Man, you represent us, the kite flyers, and specifically the Department of Tethered Aviation. We want you to fly, we want you to be there, we want you to have fun. Please be respectful, know this is a community, and one that we go to each year, have worked hard to be accepted at and included in.

If you'd like to contact me off channel for more info, please do, i'm at myname at gmail dot com
