That was no freak gust, that kite was on the ground in the beginning of the vid. That "moron" hot launched directly downwind. And that is not" horrible" by a longshot. Our buddy "whatshisdumbassname" from FLA that decided to fly right before hurricane landfall, now that was pretty freakin horrible. And the damage done to our sports image will take years to repair.

If this cptleo keeps being stoopid,he is gonna experience some "horrible" crap, you can bet on that.

Nothing like sensationalism to get people to go to your website
... personally, I think it's a good example of adequate contingency planning - he had masses of room downwind for the unexpected to run it's course and not endanger himself or bystanding people or property.

I think his choice of location was his ONLY good choice and probably a fluke !

He makes NO mention of ANY quick release system and sure never tried to deploy one.
The whole seat belt thing sounds like another mistake? Not something the poeple I know use for beach cruising ?

He had plenty of time to try and explain himself while walking back to his shoes but chose to glorify his situation.

I agree he got caught hot launch probably with messed up lines . The Gust he felt was his simple life passing before his eyes! He got less than he deserved !

The captain isn't doing any of us any good. WTF was he thinking

Mood: stuck on a small island with big trees and tiny beaches...

now here's a man gaggin' so hard for his fifteen minutes of fame he walks around his "near-death" experience tracks afterwards yakkin' it up large for his audience.... Couldn't have been all that near-death.... :dunno:

looks like he launched his kite pretty much side-on, not good. I've only tried the buggy once, but when the kite threatened to do that to me side-on after a collapse / recovery deep in the window I let go, no KS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s but lots of room downwind, got the kite back pretty quickly. Scudley might remember, it was his buggy. Can't remember whether it was my blade or his reflex.

No it ain't phree. I never met him, but I'll take hundred to one odds on that one.

wonder if he'll do anything to his rig before he flies again?

Now bigkid handled things like a dude, wish this guy would've done the same.

I'm not going to bother registering to add my bit to the comments (don't have the buggy skills to really contribute) , but if any REAL buggy pilots were to do so, I'd take it as a personal favor, and done right, it would be good for the community....

from the ireport site:

Report welcomes a lively discussion, so comments on iReports are not pre-screened before they post. See the iReport community guidelines for details about content that is not welcome on iReport.

woo hoo!

fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....

sting 1.7, dp power 2.5, crossfire 3.2, ace 5, blade iv 6.5, ace 8, ace 12...

also a couple of arcs, 12 syn and 12 phanny, but i\'m not yet up to speed on them.

The motivation behind publicizing something that makes you look like a complete ignoramus and damages the reputation of something that is good, well I will never get it.

Hmmm, I don't recall noticing if he was wearing a helmet. Maybe that explains it :embarrased:

and that is why i don't fly a bar, butt only handels instead.
in case of an emerency you only have to grab the brakelines as far away as you can reach,
pull them as close to you as possible and your kite is completly powerless/harmless
and what you saw in this movie would never have happend..

oww.., and always wear gloves or the lines will cut your hands.

I'm not so sure it was the kite that was deficiant but the Pilot ?

AGAIN I refer to the O.S. handles. I know you don't have a lot of experience with depower kites but they are those loops on the brake leaders designed in so you DON'T HAVE TO take a dangerous handful of line like you do on handles.

You let go of a depower kite and it DEPOWERS if you are still hooked in . Totally depowers ( sort of ) if you pop the pin. Let go of handles with your captive system and your kite remains POWERED UP until you pull the pin or a handfull of brake!

Don't be blaming this broken seat belt riding mistake of a pilot on his flying a depower kite ?
