THATS AN OXIMORON SAFE BUT EFFICIENT JUMP YOU CAN'T HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO --ITS LIKE THE SAME THING, THE NATURE OF JUMPING IS IN IT SELF NOT TOO SAFE, ---AN EFFICIENT JUMP I WOULD THINK IS A JUMP OF A FEW FEET WITH SOME GOOD WIND AND A LITTLE TECHNIQUE ,,, BUT A SAFE AND EFFICIENT JUMP THATS JUST DOSEN'T EXIST. IF YOURE SCARED OF JUMPING DONT DO IT. CAUSE THERES NO SAFE AND EFFICIENT JUMPING.

To be safe while jumping...... use all the safety equipment you need. eg-helmet, knee pads. Use a larger kite in smaller winds. Use a kite designed to produce lift and float. You either need a blade from Flexi or the Riot from Ozone. Both are good. If you try and use something not made for jumping, you will get dropped.

Dunno, the 9m BII seemed to have some proper float.

I think one of the main factors was mentioned above, large kite in lower stable winds. If it's gusty you can be dropped easier.

16m Scorpion seems to have some crazy float as well, the advantage of the depower kites on jumping is you can pull in to get the lift, let off the bar as your at the apex to get more float, then bar back in and redirect when you're coming in for a landing to soften it up a bit. You'll be able to do this with pretty much all depowerable kites.

6.6 blade should not be dropping you unless the winds are no good or the redirect is off or you are a real hefty boy.

I have been practicing jumping with my Bullet.
It doesn't produce much, but in good winds I can get a 3 feet off the ground. Its seams to be all about timing with pendulum jumps. Just takes practice.

I would like to try with a kite built for lift.

Mr. lucky, I live in marysville and today after work was the bomb! It is tuesday the 5th. There was a tornado watch. I have a Bullet 4.5 and I'll tell you what that kite in strong winds will lift you. but like you said thats not what it is made for. Everyone jumped high today but we all got ( not really dropped) But shot down pretty hard. Today was the most wind I have had sence I got the kite 3 weeks ago. My next kite is going to be a Blade 6.6 But not ready for that yet. Saftey first. We all had head gear & pads on today. Got to see what the kite could do today! wind 20 mph. gusts to 30. only for about an hour. Right now maybe 3 mph.

Good to hear you are having all the fun I promised ! Also good to hear you have a better understanding on the bullets characteristics. Watch out for it's downwind rather than uplifting yank and let go if it happens ! It can throw you hard to the ground. This is different than being lifted and dropped, hopefully you'll recognize it when it happens.

The blade 6.6 is easy to fly in the right winds, start looking for a good deal on one now, may take a while. If you get one, just start out in lower winds, probably 6-10mph to start with and slowly work your way up again.

Fly the 4.5m Bullet first and if it's not strong enough then put up the 6.6m. With common sense, easily do-able.

Thanks guys, I'll be looking for one but they are hard to find! I might try to save pennies to get a new one!And yes the Bullet is serious in the middle of the window. Now I understand why they are used for traction rather than just static. Is there a good allround park flyer? I would love to try a buggy but I dont know where I could find the room to do that. But thats a whole nother story.

Have you thought of an ATB, I buggy when I have the room at the beach and such, but have gotten bored of ripping around the little feilds with it. I find that o an ATB, it feels fast, ATB's seem easier to get into freestyle. Once again, keeps from getting bored in a small space. Easy to stay upwind in a small area because every direction change you simply change directions, buggies you usually end up turning downwind.

Anything geared more towards the entry level kite will be much more stable and freindly. the Beamer III, Buster II and Radsail Pro all make good static kites with some lift, but nothing stupid or unpredictable. What makes them good for learning also makes them solid in funky, interesting wind as well. I still have fun whipping the 2-3m busters around when the parS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s too busy to buggy in.

Im using my 10m Frenzy in 10 - 15mph winds. ( Im 240lbs)

Forget running and doing pendulum jumps..
I'll Only RUN for the Last Beer..

I swing the kite across the wind and when it gets to the middle I Turn it Hard Straight Up and sit back..
The kite will lift you.. If You add a jump and pull in the bar on the de-power I get Great Air and I float down so softly.
I think its called pit jumping, but I dont use a pit.

Im safe with the big kite in low wind, and efficient because I'm not running all over the place :)

It can be a great jumping kite depending on the size you got. 5m minimum unless you are 75 lbs. I'm 230 lbs and have been 5-6 feet high with my 5m. The winds weren't all that high either. Maybe 9-11 mph. This kite will kick in for me at about 14-15 mph.

I frequently jump with the Pansh Ace6, and it's a peach, let me tell you. Once I got used to the redirect, I didn't have any hard landings (although a few, I was moving sideways quite fast, and tripped, but never hit the ground moving fast vertically)

I am lazy and about the same size as bigsiler, so I use a similar technique. I'll swing it around until it's pulling pretty hard, then rocket it straight up at full blast through the window (resulting in a big air, even for a fatass like me) then swoop it side to side to keep it from deflating on the way down. I do NOT run around to jump, that's never worked too well for me.

I had an Ace 6m and I couldn't get it to do a pendulum jump. It didn't want to do the quick spin at 2:00 to generate the jump. It has plenty of sail to do it your way though. And it would gently float you down if you keep it overhead as well.

yeah, i had a hard time learning to jump the normal way (sharp back and forth in the window, jump as you turn) because the kite, nice as it is, isn't especially nimble  so over time i learned that to make it develop that addictive monster lift, i had to let it run straight up for a bit, and THEN redirect once i was near the zenith. in 12-15 mph this is enough to hoist me for a fun little jump, and in 17+ mph it's enough to scare me half to death :o

[*] posted on 6-8-2008 at 04:46 PM

Today in low wind 10 to 15 I used a ozone riot 7 meter worked fairly well. I also got in my first good jumps today. I finally got to watch someone do some jumping in person. It made it a whole lot easier to actually try it. I knoticed that the wider the kite the more float it has and my riot is about 4 feet maybe 5 feet wide in the middle. I'm not quite sure how true this is but it is what I have noticed in my experiance with powerkiteing.
