Buggy camera mount

Part #1 - Manfrotto Super Clamp

This thing is strong. It will not move or come off. The clamp hand has a flat side and angled side so it really hugs any tube shape, and it also comes with an insert to make then angled side flat for clamping on tables and the like. But who would want to do that? It also comes with a 1/4-20 or 3/8 stud so you can attach a camera or flash directly to it. I picked mine up for 22$. deal!

But... my plan was to attach this to the axle, so I wanted a longer rod. There are all sorts of ways to do this. there's magic arms, that are crazy expensive, but they'll give you some good angles. Or I even use a piece of 5/8 rod and welded a 1/4-20 in the top :) But the super clamp comes with a nice hex head insert, and rather cutting the rod to fit nice and snug, I found this heavy duty flexible arm.

Part #2 - Manfrotto 237HD Heavy-Duty Flex Arm for Super Clamp

Holy $#!+, don't let this fool you. It's sturdy. Very sturdy. It won't bend unless you want it to. Or unless vwbrian flies his kite into it. The hex head makes the arm fit super snug into the clamp and at a a few angles without having to bend ortwist the arm. I also found that this is a great height for the camera. Plus you can bend it out over the wheel, back, or lower to your preference. Picked this up for 16 ;)

Part #3 - GoPro tri pod mount

I had actually been using the plastic base that the camera ships on and I drilled a 3/16th hole with a nut on top, but that was pretty ghetto and it got some bounce. So I sprung the 7$ for this. Much more burley.

I was able to face the arm, forward, sideways, backwards for the tandem. Put on the axle about 2" from the wheel. clamped it on the side rail, on the front fork, I had it on the roof rack of my car. Neato. So for about 45 bucks you can have a really nice, stiff axle camera mount without needing to cut or weld. I did replicate this with my horrid fab skills for about 12$ with a home depot clamp and the rod + 1/4-20 but it wasn't nearly and sturdy and was certainly a unitasker.

Ok, now go make more videos! :wee:

The Manfrotto Super Clamp is definitely the bee's knees. So simple and incredibly effective.

Waiting for someone to used the plastic insert so they can mount a Go Pro on their board. ;)

Sam

The first 30 sec of this video has another GoPro mount idea which consists of a gal fence fitting (sanded and with a layer of tape on the inside to minimize scratching the axle) some 40mm plastic tube (with a short section of dowel to reinforce the area under the clamp), a 45 degree angle bend and another bit of dowel screwed into the top to screw the gopro base to. I've managed to make one with multiple screw holes so I can adjust the horizontal angle to a few different positions. You can get some mighty force on the clamp and there is nothing to rattle loose. So far it's been working pretty well and it's nice and light. Under $10 of bits. GoPro mount and silly fitness workout!

I should mention that the clamp is only going to work well if your 'post' is very close to the same diameter as your axle (in my case they're both within a whisker of 43mm)
