broken truck, where to buy?

I was riding today and came down hard from a jump and heard a loud popping noise. After the landing I fell and was pulled downwind for a little bit until I could regain control of the kite. When I came back to the board, I was shocked to find that the truck snapped near the front (bolt still entact) and will now freely spin around 360 degrees.

It is an Ambush Warrior board. I know it's old, I believe MBS makes it. Will any truck made by MBS do the job?

I'll post a pic tomorrow.

It is still rideable, but sometimes when jumping or turning hard the truck spins and results in me faceplanting... not so fun. I'm thinking superglue as a temporary fix until I can get another truck?

It should be running MBS All Terrain Skate Trucks

Any MBS dealer should be able to get you a replacement for ~ $30/per truck plus shipping.

If you want to upgrade the truck, redrilling the board for a different mounting hole patter might be required.

Rideable in the same sense that a Ford Pinto with a leaking gas tank is driveable.

If the baseplate for the truck is cracked to the point that it is allowing the truck to spin, the remaining portion of the baseplate is under more stress and waiting to fail.

More formulations of CA/super glue are not shock-resistant and repeated landings can cause it to fail.

Faceplants just ding the dignity... landing wrong on a joint or torquing a tendon might sideline you for a bit longer.

Hard to say where to source a replacement without knowing your location, but the MBS Dealer Locator should get you sorted. Sadly, it does not list all PKF dealers, even those that I know carry MBS.

Sam

this has happened to me 3 times now. Your truck is most likley a Vector.

this is what you do if you dont feel like spending money for a new one.

1. Tighten up the king pin until you can turn it any more.

2. Mix together some 5 minute Epoxy and pour it all around the crack( even on the hangar and base) Use atleast half a bottle. More the better. You want to build up as much support around the crack and on the base and hanger as possible, dont worry about how it looks.

Let it dry for 24 hours , clean up the truck as best as possible with rubbing alcohol first.
Once you do this it will be fine to ride for a long time, but you will not be able to undo the epoxy.

Ive been riding this way now for six months. You can actually ride even with out the epoxy after tightening but it makes it more secure.

That is a truly awful suggestion.

not really works good to be honest.

Saves you about 40 bucks.
more than likey if your heavy enough to break a truck like i am, its going to keep happening.

I like to break both trucks before i start replacing them. This method extends your riding time between breaks.

5 min epoxy turns to steel and gives you atleast 85% strength back to the truck base/hangar/and kingpin area.

The force of the king pin is keeping the top and bottom of the truck inplace anyways.

Im assuming his crack was around the kingpin hole where the top of the truck enters the top pivot point.

Looks like the pivot snapped... and took a nibble out of the hanger area too.

Think it's time to say a few kind words, observe a moment of silence, and bury the truck at your favorite field.

In this case, epoxy is just going to be like embalming fluid.

Both trucks look like they have a sleeve full of service stripes.

by a "sleeve full of service stripes" do you mean a lot of wear and tear or what?

Oh i see, Yeah you need to buy a new one.

Call mbs, www.mbs.com, ask for chris, he will help you out.

Tell him what happened and if you can get a replacement.

Yeah..... not sure if you are the originally owner or not, but the trucks definitely look like they have seen some mileage.

I would definitely look at the other truck and see if it is showing any signs of stress/wear that could place it at risk.

Would suck if you waited on shipping to replace one and the other one gives up the ghost and incurs another ship time wait.
