If you post it, they will come... Cheezeball Buggy Rally Recap

Well the 1st Annual Cheezeball Buggy Bash was a HOOJ sucess. I am proud to be amongst such a phenomanal group of people. I really give thanks to everyone who turned up to make this a great weekend of kiting and buggying. Some of you drove great distances to ride with us. i am glad the trip was worth your while.

Saturday had a big turn-out. I counted about 19 of us in the group photo with more friends and family on the sidelines. We had a nice little basecamp set-up with tents and food and some tunes at times. The wind wasn't great on this day, so there were some lulls in the buggying.(nothing seemed to stop the blo-karts though)
In any event fun was still to be had with all the RC's and pocket-bikes and just great comraderie with my kiting brothers.
Sunday- the day started very cloudy and overcast wit threat of rain (which I'm sure discouraged some from returning).
But, as is always the case the day you miss is the day you should have been there. Wind direction shifted and was pretty smooth in most parts of the runway.
It was a much smaller group, very spartan bare knuckle set-up, but a great day of riding....

Once again THANK YOU to everyone who attended, posted, and spread the word, making this such a HOOj event!!!

Sorry we couldn't make it. I think next year we will try and get there for at least one day. Sounds like a great place to ride.
OH did any one loose any skin on the tarmak? One thing us old guys need to worry about.

Unbelievable time!! Thanks for putting it together Cheeseman:thumbup::thumbup:. You'll have to bring the kids next time, I need more ballast;-). Saturday was 7-10mph with shifting winds which made things a little challenging. Sunday was rockin' though with winds 14-18 mph coming straight across one of the runways. There was only 7 or 8 buggiers out there but there was nothing but the smell of burnt rubber in the air:spin:. We buggied from 10-2 on sunday (rain came at 2:30) but those 4 hours seemed like 8 it was so much fun:wee:. Thanks again Marc for putting this together for all of us.

I don't think there were any fatalities due to the tarmac but there were a few close calls :). Surface was insanely grippy and smooth. Unlike new pavement which is relatively smooth the runways have worn over the years and the aggregate in the pavement is coming through so the tires do nothing but hook up. The ride is smooth though, just need to plan your turns in advance. I know I smoked 1/2 inch of rubber off my tires and buggydanny went through a pretty new set of 4 ply's as well.

Cheezy I can thank you enough for organizing such a great event. I had a wonderful time and can't wait to get back. You did a great job and I know it will only get better in the future. It was great to see some old friends and make some new ones.

I struggled with the turbulent winds on Saturday that my kites really don't like; but had a much better time on Sunday. Sunday was overcast and the threat of rain was always present. I often felt a few drops hit me, but the rain held out till 2:30. The wind were much stronger and smoother, the kiters that could not make it on Sunday unfortunately missed the better day.

The surface presented an enjoyable change from what I am use to. The techniques I use on the sand do not work well here. This left me experimenting and trying new things to see what works and what doesn't; I have a long way to go and will continue the process on my next visit. It brought back fond memories of when I first started buggying; I has the same fun feeling too.

The trees around the runway create large wind shadows . I went around the "triangle" once and on the back runway I felt as if I were flying in a valley. The kite would not stay in the air when I was hooked into my harness. When I unhooked and stretched my arms out and kept the kite at the top of the window if flew, the 2 feet made the difference. I know that I could use longer lines, but I was thinking it may be better when the leaves are not in the trees. Do any of the locals what kiting is like when the trees are bare? Marc, if it is better then I think that we should hold our next event at FBF in the early spring or late fall.

Cheezy, I can't thank you enough for making this event happen. Also to everyone who attended and made it a success. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Wildwood.

Was great meeting you Terry:thumbup:. My appologies for scaring your daughter. I guess the 2-wheel action was too much for her. I should have asked her before going up on 2  Hope to see you at Calverton soon:tumble:
