SLP Signs
I went to SLP today. These signs are all over the entrances now.

I made half dozen trips to the water tower and back in the buggy. One pass had a lady and a police officer watching me from one of the walkways. I
waved and they waved back... other than that the beach was deserted. But the signs are an issue we need to think about...

That stuff seems like reasonable things to not have on a beach and doesn't seem to affect kiting except for the last item that leaves things up to the
interpretation of enforcement.

In a perfect world, formalized certification would remove that ambiguity and latitude for interpretation from those in charge of enforcing locale
guidelines.
Requirements for Level 1 and Level 2 IKO Certifications for Power Kiting:Level 1 (Flying with a
bar)
Level 1ASet-up – rigging and ground handling skills
Pre-flight checks of equipment
Safety checks of kite and equipment before flying
Level 1B Personal and safety equipment required for power kiting – including emergency equipment for specific locations
Level 1C Launching and landing, with an assistant or independently
Use of kite leash and safety systems
Piloting in the wind window and power zone. Understanding key areas and safety
Simulate change of direction using a top turn
Untwisting lines while kite is flying
Level 1D Landing the kite alone
Safety pack down
Level 1 E Walk across the wind with the kite to simulate traction
Level 2 (Flying with handles) Level 2F Basic understanding of weather and wind
Understanding of the dangers of wind effects
Level 2GIncident simulation – control kite and leashing out when you have fallen over
Level 2H Basic location and conditions assessment before you fly
Without being able to distinguish between the trained and the untrained, Beach and Public Land Patrols have to enforce for the lowest common
denominator.

Sam

I'm concerned with the reckless behavior clause. Gives patrol allot of discretion with policing

Wow, no camping. The beginning of the end?
Camping out on the beach was a big part each event.
We might have to have Dead Bird at East Beach again.

In the past one way we got around no camping on the beach is that we were told be local police was we could fish all night. Years ago we use to have
fishing poles around camp. It was never a problem.

The four-wheelers had gotten so bad they were like flys. The way the sign is refers mainly to the "Private Property". There are also private
property signs mounted everywhere the idiot four wheelers had made roads in the dunes.
The condo complex has for years had a map of the area, with all the area you have to pass through marked as a "wildlife preserve". Eventually the
condo people will have small parking lot areas made and only way to access the beach will be the walkovers. Makes for a better buggy surface, but
tough to haul a lot of gear when camping.
