Jury duty

So I have jury duty this week, first time, turns out it's a ton of waiting around.

Unfortunately the boards around here seem mighty quiet...

So I beg of you community, entertain me! Good joke, bad joke, cool article, compelling argument, I don't care all I know is that I'm bored....

Hey bb, there's 10+/- min of extremely boring video of me riding at Thousand Islands School, mostly underpowered with my 4M Access!(under my thread"a little seat time) Boring, yet somewhat entertaining, just turn down the audio, dunno how the rasta music goes over in an Albany courthouse!

Too bad you can't just tell them "Call me when you need me, I'll be out in the parking lot zoomin' in my zooter! As for the snow? T.I. school is prolly only 20 mi. from Canada(as the crow fly's) and that lot is bare! Next forecast snow is for Friday night, could change by then, Sat. looks like snow/rain mix, but wind from the west at 20, so I might have to brave the slop and buggy the beach!

Thousand Islands

babalooie57, the Thousand Islands School...is that a kite school or a public school? I lived in Cape Vincent, NY during my early years and went to Thousand Islands Elementary school, just curious. I haven't been back in many years.

bigben91682, I visit the Albany, NY area often and will be there at Christmas time near Round Lake/Ballston Lake. Here's a jury duty/kite story for ya:

Sam... Loved the Nissan polar bear ad.... WAYYY to freaking cute. (and polar bears remind me of my little Brutus)

Big Ben.. As for some amusement, hows about a little joke telling whilst you wait?

So a pirate walks into a bar, okay, and swaggers up to the barkeep and demands a glass of rum. I believe his exact words were "Your rum or your life, dog, what'll it be?".

And so the bartender, being a reasonable fellow, makes no complaint but simply grabs a large glass, a bottle of fine dark rum, and begins to pour. And while he's waiting for the glass to fill (this being, as I said before, a large glass) he sizes up the pirate, having never seen a real honest-to-God pirate before.

This pirate is in full pirate gear. Gold earrings, patch over the eye, a big filthy white blouse covering his swarthy chest, tattoos everywhere, all of it. But protruding from his pirate trousers is the unmistakable form of a steering wheel.

Well, the bartender sees that the glass of rum is just about topped off, so he passes the glass across the bar to the pirate, who nods curtly and takes a huge swig of the rum. Slapping a dubloon on the bartop, he turns to walk away, when our bartender's curiosity gets the best of him.

"Wait, one second. What's up with the steering wheel?"

And the pirate turns back and fixes him with a beady glare from his lone eye. "Arrr, I don't know, but it's drivin' me nuts!"

No kites left :(
Maybe someday I'll snowkite again

After waiting around until 1:00 o clock....selection started and I got selected. Bummer. Oh well, it's kind of interesting to see the process....

ride_vw - who knew power kiting could get you off of jury duty, that's a great story!

iw - thanks for the videos that killed some time.

chudalicious - that's a good one, I liked that....

Well I'm home now and I'm beat, probably not as much free time tomorrow when the trial begins....thanks gang!

Right now I would very much like like to serve on a jury for the civic duty and experience (and while I am under employed), but in previous years when very busy, I leaned the trick of electing to reschedule my duty to the week between Christmas and New Years. They are obligated to empanel you right away but no judge will start a trial that week so they let you go the first day - obligation fulfilled.

Sam: great vids.

Well deliberations finally wrapped up tonight, finally done, thank jeebus. It's been a pretty taxing week, the case (which I can now talk about) was a real doozy (the following is somewhat graphic....if you're sensitive to that stuff):

Dad rapes 13 year old daughter, numerous time, over 2 years
Daughter becomes pregnant
Daughter aborts pregnancy
DNA proves the aborted fetus is from pedophile Dad
Once this is revealed, the step-daughter reveals dad is molesting her too
Dad pleads.........NOT GUILTY! what???

After 4 days of testimony from god knows how many witnesses I know far to much about the whole situation, but thank god, we found him guilty on all counts. This guy will spend the rest of his life in prison, which I find very comforting. Plus, I hear that child molesters are treated with special care in prison.....

It was really interesting process and the ADA that prosecuted the case was really amazing, quite a show to watch her handle this case, It was an admirable performance. And the court appointed atty for the defendant did his best, he had a tough one with this case...

So, that's been my week. On the up side, I have tomorrow off, the wind is supposed to blow like stink on Saturday so I'm getting the zooter out, that should make me feel better.

 gotta wonder about some people eh ...!

Never done duty myself, and not likely too in Japan - they only just got a kind of jury system like, last year - but had a buddy in NZ on one of the big murder cases there a few years ago. Avoiding details, certain groups of people were screaming about discrimination-type things during the trail, but my buddy said they were all full of feces cos the details were far more telling and the prosecuted party got what they deserved - a guilty verdict ...

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Was selected for jury duty about 5 years ago. It was a three day-er. Nothing too exciting, just a civil lawsuit case. Like you said, really interesting to see first hand how the whole process works. I wouldn't be able to cut it as a defense attorney, my conscience would get the best of me.
