Song stuck in your head?!

As it turns out, kiting is my second most overwhelming obsession, next in line after music. Music is my ultimate pastime (and presentime). I not only listen to it, I play it, study it, and commit myself to it. I think I am much more fascinated and open to music than most other kids my age care to be.

Consequently, I always, always have SOMETHING stuck in my head. Today, I went from having "Godplayer" by Brutal Truth replaying itself for hours on end to er... "Travellin' Soldier" by the Dixie Chicks. Yes, the Dixie Chicks. Hey, it's a good song :D

What about you? What do you like to listen to? Anything that always gets stuck in your head? I'd like to know!

Cheers,
Seanny

At the moment, it's "Du Hast" for some reason ... I find it bad in the morning - wake up with a song stuck in my head and can't get my brain started because every time I start thinking about what I need to do my thoughts dissolve into the song ... and not just the lyrics, but I supply the music too ... which is like a really lame air guitar :o

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

By Rammstein? I haven't heard that one in quite some time! :singing:

I can see how it would get stuck in your head though.

Yah. I have it on my .mp3 player ... there was something else exceedingly lame stuck in my head last week but thank god it's been replaced by Du Hast

Was it by Five Finger Death Punch or Nickelback? If you answered "yes" to either of those, then it was indeed, exceedingly lame ^^ :D

we used to joke that the theme from Gilligan Island was the universal eraser. Sing a bit of it and it'll get any song out of your head.

Universal eraser, eh? Well. I know what you mean. I tried that once with the Brady Bunch theme song. It seemed to have the opposite effect. :ticking:

With all due respect to the Dixie Chicks, listen to the Bruce Robison (who wrote it over 15 years ago) version. The best version is the acoustic version with his wife, Kelly Willis, on backing vocals. One of the things I like about it so much is that is essentially a two person ballad. Interesting thing to note is that as the song progresses the backing vocals ramp up which is very appropriate to the storyline.

There is a lot of cross-pollination in that musical family. Charlie Robison, Bruce's brother is Natalie Maines' (Dixie Chick lead singer) husband. I expect that's partially how the song got added to their repertoire.

Sam

Wow! I didn't even know that! Please pardon my ignorance. :)

I listen to both Bruce Robinson and Kelly Willis, but I didn't know that Bruce wrote the song. And I didn't know he was married to Kelly Willis, either. She has such a beautiful voice!

I don't normally shuffle my music when I listen to it, but when I do, it's funny that I can go from a death metal track to something by the Dixie Chicks or Kelly Willis or Sarah McGlaughlin and not think anything of it. :P

Yes, she does. My favorite quote about her voice: [i]"(That voice was -- and remains -- a wondrous instrument, warmly flavored with a Southern purr, and as richly burled as walnut paneling. When Willis sings, it is the aural equivalent of a cat curling up in your lap.)"

That's what prompted me to first buy one of her albums ("What I Deserve"), which I listened to endlessly commuting in the NYC subways (good train walking music). Kind of annoyed that I didn't know about her and her husband when I was living in TX, as they are currently limiting most of their gigs to the Austin and outlying areas, while doing the family thing.

Now, whatever music I don't pick up on the 'Net is mostly driven by listening to music at local venues and house concerts. One of the house concerts is at a homestead, so you get to visit with the farm animals before the show starts ;)

Sam

Who said that quote?

And I'm right in the Austin area. I've been to the ACL music festival every year--and I have the posters to prove it! :D

Man I love Austin. I don't have enough good things to say about it. If music and having a good time is your thing, Austin is the place to be. :)

I have a constant buzzing in my ears. Ever see the movie "Music within"? The sound they play to show what he hears is exactly the sound I hear 24hrs a day and have for the last 13years. So any song playing in my head is welcome.
But I try to keep it to the classics!:bigok:

I linked to the article the quote was lifted from in my last post, but here it (good article) is agan:

Yes, I actually referenced a quote from an article I read almost 12 years ago... weird wiring :embarrased:

Envy you your proximity. Even with the young 'un she does a lot of impromptu local gigs (either solo or with her husband). Lead times can sometimes (well, actually usually are) short so they get posted to her Twitter page.

Was really surprised to find out that she actually did some videos for her songs which was kind of a recent revelation. :o

@rocfighter: That sounds like the result of hearing damage from being too close to a tank when it fired it's main gun without ear protection or something. What happened? Hooray for the classics! Music after 1995 fails for the most part. There are still some good (and REALLY good) licks, but it's not as prevalent as it was 15 years ago and earlier.

@bobalooie57: "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey, "Black Dog" by Led Zeppelin :bigok:

@indigo_wolf: That's a very nice article. Have you heard of Alison Krauss? She also has a fantastic voice. I saw her perform in a duet with Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin in the '08 (I think) ACL fest. It was incredible :o

Well not sure if any of you dig this stuff but the first is frequently in my head, and I listen to the second every night to help my three month old daughter get to sleep. The only stuff she will just lay in my arms and listen:

For a very short period I aspired to be able to play well. Unfortunately beginning at 23 and having a wife and kids I never got very far in learning.Fortunately for the rest of the world I discovered kiting, and only pick up the guitar when I'm very bored. Here's a link to the only bit of music I've ever amounted to trying to put together. I stress trying cause it ain't that good. Enjoy and have a good laugh  You have to click play twice to make it work

I do definitely enjoy John Butler! He's a very talented musician.

On a second note (no pun intended), you sir have some serious potential. That is NOT BAD. At ALL. I thoroughly enjoyed listening. If you ever have free time and want to pick the guitar back up, DO IT! Don't get discouraged. You're off to an outstanding start! I've heard a great many signed bands with guitarists that have much less talent and creativity. Just keep working at it! :)

I never really got into guitars. Drumming is my thing. However, since I am going to be going to college soon, I sold my kit for some extra money (spent it on kiting), as I clearly can't keep it in a dorm room or apartment. I hope to buy another kit someday, I miss it quite a lot
At least kites and boards are portable!! :D

Well thanks for the compliments.:embarrased: I went on a spree bout three years ago, where I bought 8 guitars, electronic drums, a set of bongos and congas, acoustic bass and some line-6 recording equipment. I sold most everything, except a cheap washburn acoustic to just beat around, still got the equipment and last year bought a fender super champ tube amp for my Epiphone Zakk Wylde custom. Just hearing that tune again gives me the itch to play a bit and see if I can learn some new things. I never learned to play a single song, mostly I always wanted to make my own sound, but learning others music is an important part of learning and I just seem to lose patience and end up noodling again when I try. If there ain't no wind this weekend to snowkite I think I may just dust the axe off and have some fun over a few beverages. :wee:
