Gopro kitehero mnt, anyone used one?

Hey everybody, snowkiting season is here and I'd love to try mounting my gopro camera on my kite or lines. I've seen footage that appeared to be taken right at the kite, it looked fantastic.

The video that pointofview.com has posted on their site showing the kitehero mnt seems to show the camera a few feet up from the control bar. It looked pretty good, but does anyone know of a system that mnts the gopro up near the bridles or has anyone used the kitehero mnt that way??

If someone has put the kitehero mnt on the newer Ozone Y line setup i'd really like to hear how it worked, as the kitehero mnt appears to be made only for 2 front lines.

thanks!

Yup. Made a few movies with it too
Here's the latest one ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZDimdMOaHM

Note, that I spent A LOT of time 'straightening' the video, to keep the horizon 'up' ... time consuming but simple. You could get away with a lot less effort if you were less fussy or smarter ;)

I've used it on Peter Lynn Zero7 bar and Cabrinha IDS bar ... the PL was closer, the Cab further away and the Navigator will be further away again. The wide angle of my camera makes you look miles away so "at the kite" might not be the best idea ...

Just make sure to either cable tie in on or lease the camera ...

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Well, wouldn't be my first choice of music, but great video. Maybe the videos i watched weren't shot with a Gopro, but the camera was definately mounted at the kite. It was done by a French kiter named Pascal, I think he's an ozone team rider. It gave an awesome perspective of the surroundings as well as the kiter. Anyway, the vids are posted on kiteforum.com in their "land/snow" forum.

I was thinking of using a flat (stick on) style mnt, drilling some holes thru it and cable tieing it to my y-line where it splits to go to the bridles, im guessing it will only be oriented correctly about half the time.

thanks for the feedback!

Nice Vid Kami,

How did you "straighten" the video? I am using Pinnacle Studio for my video editing, but I am quite a novice at it.

With the Kitehero line mount, you'll find that if the kite is at the zenith then you're getting full width in the correct orientation ie. landscape ... but if you're moving, the kite will be 'standing' so the footage will be portrait. If you spend even more time editing, you can crop it clever-like and it's all look the same ...

The KH mount stabilizes the camera a bit cos it's quite long - your DIY option may twitch a lot more ... but give it a shot! I bought mine cos it was so cheap it wasn't worth my time trying to make one ;)

... um, in Vegas there a menu option called "track motion" I think that bring up a toolbar that lets you rotate the footage. I know how to do it by clicking in the right places but that's it  time consuming ... going through it frame by frame to adjust it :o
