I've been able to use my new Trampa for this last weeks sessions and I thought a review is in order. To be fair I have only ever had a chance to use
MBS mountainboards before, so I can't really compare this review to scrub or ground industries.
Build:
Ive got the standard kitedeck which is a little flatter profile where the trucks connect. I know some people like the really deep dip in their
board to keep the board lower to the ground, but I don't really like that for my style of riding. The deck is the 13 ply for medium flexibility and
firmness. I also have the classic bindings versus the really expensive ratchet style. I wanted to save board weight so I can boost as high as
possible for jumps. I'm also using the hollow trampa standard skate style trucks. The wheels are 9 inches compared to the MBS 8 inch wheels. I've
also had the grab handle added for freestyle kiting. It was slightly heavier than my MBS core90, but overall it was still very light. Something that
really stuck out to me was the amount of fine detail. The trampa logo is machined into the metal of the trucks and even the bearings are trampa
brand. The roll much faster than previous bearings i have used. When putting this board together I found that the wheel had a few extra components
that had to be added to the inside of the hub before placed on the trucks. There are some bearing spacers that needed to go inside etc....
Riding-
First thing that is noticable is the wider wheel base between tires. It helps for faster turning, and you don't have to worry about your toes
rubbing on the wheels in a sharp turn, which was the case with my MBS core 90. This board will also flex easier than my older boards. Because of the
bow of the deck there is more ground clearance...especially because of the 9 inch tires.
Speed- the runs I had on this board where really fun. It doesn't take very long to build up plenty of speed and you feel like you have tons of
control, even while riding switch.
Jumping- The board flex helps with pop when you load your kite and send it. It helps aborb your energy when you are coming in hard for a landing
(much better on my knees
)
Spin tricks are much easier to roll out of compared to my old MBS. the wider wheel base makes it easier for smooth landings and then you can turn
fast to correct yourself if you turn to far.
Theres no dodgy graphics or anything with these boards, just the Trampa logo stickers that cover the board. You can also chose which color of
sticker, binding, wheel, hub and grab handle that you want.
The thing I noticed the most in the amount of fine detail that is put into these boards. Those small details have made a bid difference on my riding,
and i've already learned several new tricks on this board. Its been very easy on my knees and ankles because it absorbs so much energy coming in hot
from a botched jump. For you speed freaks, you could probably get a thicker ply board for a stiffer feel. These boards are custom made for you!
If you have any questions about them just ask since I ride for them now. I could even ask Ted if there is some detail that I don't know about.
Thanks dudes!
