I'm so bored!

I'm sitting on the computer at work at the highschool, and i've watched the same kite videos over and over again (carltb's and todds vid with the 6m phantom) and i'm going crazy. I just want to be outside. My students are working on some graphing junk while I'm day dreaming about riding the sky.

I've checked the UPS tracking info of my PL team stuff a thousand times today and its set to get here on monday.I can't wait for my charger! and i've hit the todays post button a million times for the most recent threads. What else should I do? i'm so hungry too, lunch seems so far away.
I also teach a skateboarding camp at the local skatepark on saturdays. Many of my students always want to talk to me about skateboarding and show me skateboarding magazines. When I show them kiteboarding all they say is "cool" Don't they realize that WE can fly?

help me i'm sooooo bored....tell me a story or something

Well the wind here is very weak, but i am getting ready to go pick up my son from school so he can try out his new mtn board and kite:wee: AND i am going to try and get in the buggy for the first time since my knee injury in June. I cant wait- not trying to rub it in (since wind sucks) but i feel like a virgin getting ready to "get some" for the first time:tumble: Also we have a slight chance for some snow Saturday night and calling for some honking winds on Sunday:bouncing: will be playing then too

I wish the parents of my kids were into kite buggying. It'd be nice to talk about kitesports with someone who knew what I was talking about. Most people these days are so obsessed about their car insurance and their homes that they forget to go on adventures and have fun

So, the kiddos these days are still too "cool" to fly kites? I was talking to Big Mike about this yesterday. I asked him if there's been an increase in kids and teens over the years buying kite stuff. I guess not. I've been doing this since I was 13 or 14. I'm only 17 now, but I love it. And I'm the only one in my high school, and probably the only one for about 30 miles or so, that knows what traction kiting is. It's lame. They're missing out on the greatest sport in the world. :thumbup::wee:

Seanny

Same here in Kerrville Seanny. Everytime we fly I feel like I should have a parade permit for all the people driving through looking at me...then at the kite...then at me...the kite...me....you get the picture.

Our sport still needs alot of exposure.

Hey Seanny The Kidd aka my son Cameron is 14 he loves traction kites and buggying, Also most of the single line display stuff we have. But also he grew up with kiting. So he might just have been poisoned since birth!!! His sister 18 is not a kiter at all. So I guess it is the person not the surroundings.

@Txshooter83:
Yeah, I get pretty lonely, always flying by myself. My friends at school know I ATB, and think it's pretty awesome, but they'd much rather spend money on electronics and stuff. I'll try to make it to the next buggy event in Texas. That'd be fun.

@rocfighter:
Well your son is being raised the right way! :) He's got a dad to show him how it's done. It's good getting him into it early. As for your daughter, well, maybe she's just being too girly and doesn't want to get dirty. But I don't know, I've never met her. When I tell other kids I like to fly kites, although they don't know what kind of kite I'm talking about and probably think the only type of kites are single-line, their first reaction is something along the lines of, "Wow. What a loser." I personally love flying ALL types of kites, but I know they'd think differently if I went into more detail. I get tired of explaining what traction kiting is 50 times a day though. I'm really trying hard to get some of my friends into the sport!

Cheers,
Seanny

Seanny, I wish you were one of my students. We could watch kite vids in class :) I've been teaching a couple kids how to fly. Some people are interested but nobody wants to take time to learn or spend money. They'd rather spend money on xbox crap. Kids these days have no sense of adventure

EXACTLY my point! Bleh. And my parents don't support my kiting thing at all. They somehow think it limits me socially and is harmful to my "personal development"...? I don't know. Very long story. All I know is, they made me cancel on a deal for a PL Synergy 15 w/ modified Best bar and Q lines the day before I was supposed to buy it just last week. Still fuming about that. But, what can I do. Whatever. It's part of being an adolescent, I guess.

I often take my board to school and keep a kite in my locker, so I can go riding as soon as I get out at the end of the day. That'd be absolutely amazing to have a teacher that kiteboards. You'd be my teacher in school and out of it. Hell, there's not a lot I wouldn't give just to have ANY other person in my school that kites. I have nobody to relate to.

Cheers,
Seanny

Wow! That's very generous of you! :) Many of my binders and belongings still have a shameful lack of sticker coating. You're awesome!

I feel all warm and fuzzy inside now. :embarrased:

I'm actually in the process of getting some people hooked. Ha, that's a pun. Anyway! I usually let them fly my Twister II 4.1m on days where the wind is tame (it really is a beast of a kite for it's size, but I have to use it for lack of anything better). This one time I was flying my Access XC with a friend, and the wind was steady so I thought I'd let him hold it just to feel the pull. He was wearing one of my harnesses, so I unhooked it and passed it to him, hooked him in and told him to hold it at the zenith. I had no intentions of giving a "lesson", as an Access is not a suitable beginner kite, but he was doing quite well. Then, the wind picked up, then gusted, and instead of releasing like I told him to do, he yanked in the bar and went for a ride. So much for my Access. It met a fateful end with a fence, the only damn fence in sight. Something to laugh about now. :D

Cheers,
Seanny
