PL buggy bolt size
OK, I have a replacement rear axle for my PL buggy set up for 15 mm bolts. It's replacing my bent axle that used 12mm bolts.
But I don't get it - metric bolts come M12, 14, 16, 20 nominal shank diameter. Can anybody clue me in as to the actual shank diameter and thread
pitch for this axle? I need to set it up with new bolts, bearings, and compression sleeves. Thanks,
krumly

I have bad news for you. The OD for a bearing with12mm ID is going to be very different from the OD of 15mm bearing. I think you need new hubs as
well, unless you have a way to bore them.

In that bolt size there are only 2 pitches to my knowledge. Fine and Coarse. The PL bolts are coarse. My Ivanpah uses the fine pitch. If you need
more info I have 20mm bolts here I can get some more info on but I'm not sure how it will translate to your 15mm bolts.

I have looked hard and long to find those bolts here in the states with no luck. I had to order them from PL direct. Just seemed silly to bring in
bolts from Holland, but I could not find them here. Maybe someone else had luck finding them here in the states.
I have the 20mm in stock, but not the 15mm. Also like scudley said chances are you will need new wheels also. The plastic PL wheels came in two sizes.
One only fit 12mm and the other fits both the 15mm and 20mm. The wheel that fits both the 15mm and 20mm uses the same OD but the ID of the bearing is
the difference.

I have the 15mm bolts in stock. The info above is actually wrong as the 12mm and 15mm rear axles use the exact same Peter Lynn ABS wheels. All you
need to do is to replace the bearings and the spacers. You only need to replace your wheels when you upgrade to the 20mm rear axle bolts. We also
have the bearings and spacers in stock if you can't find them locally.
Bearing OD size for the wheels is 32mm.
The 12mm wheels use a 32x12x10 bearing.
The 15mm wheel uses a 32x15x9 bearing.
The 20mm wheel uses a 47x20x14 bearing.
The 15mm rear axle bolts are very rare but it is a true 15mm bolt.

I know this made both Kent and tiny Ricky's night. Yes I stand corrected I had
the rims backwards. But just so I can say I am sort of correct .... If you order new 15mm rims from PL you will get 20mm with a bushing that sizes
them down to 15mm :moon:

Actually...
We have completely dropped the 15mm bolts & bearings.
So it comes down to that when you have 15mm now and need to upgrade you cannot get them through us anymore.
We only have the 12 and 20mm, and moreover both wheels come with 20mm bearings but the 12mm come with an insert to make it 12mm.

Cheezy -
I went to McMaster straight off - as an exhibit builder, they are my one-stop shopping spot. I figured if anyone would stock a metric thread size I
hadn't heard of, they would. Then I started Googling metric thread pitches and couldn't find anything such as an 'M15' thread.
Was aware of 15 mm ID replacement bearings that have the same OD as the 12 mm ID bearings. Glad to know you got the bolts and such, Kent. Will be
contacting you shortly.
thanks all,
krumly
