Tri-lakes NY kiters?

I am sure I am not the only one out there, so where is every body? Is their anyone else in the Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake area that kites? I know a few South in the Albany area, a few West in the Watertown/Tug Hill area, North in Montreal, and East in Vermont. Everyone seems to be a few hours away. Anyone closer than that?

Cheers!

I am in Albany. So not super close, nor super far.

Ahoy from the north woods! Thanks for chiming in. It seems Albany is well represented. I am on a search for a good people/good location nearby to kite. I have a few prospects, that I will pursue when the conditions improve. But so far I am flying solo... Are you guys going to Tug Hill MLK weekend? Sounds like it's going to be an awesome time!

Cheers!

Hey Joe, I know you said you had a tater field to kite at up there, but what about the lakes? Does Saranac freeze over well, and hold any snow? I know I'd travel up there for some fun, prolly Jan and Jackie too. Bob

The tater field seems a bit knocky... I will try the lakes one I see a few more people out there fishing. I am not a fan of taking a mid January swim in the Adirondacks. Once I have found a few good places, I would love to have a day where everyone comes up and checks it out. Good thinking Bob, I will keep you posted!

Cheers!

Ok, my spidey senses(with a little help from wunderground.com) are telling me that tomorrow is shaping up to be a great day. I am planning on hitting Lower Saranac Lake(7 miles long-ish and about two miles wide-ish) Dotted with a few islands. I have sailed it in the summer and the wind was very consistent. Now with no leaves on the trees, I am sure it will be even better. I checked this lake a few days ago, and it had about 4 inches of base snow. We are forecasted up to 7 more inches by the end of tonight with west winds 10-15 mph tomorrow. My employer has a private beach on the north east side of the lake which will be a good place to launch. If anyone is interested, please give me a call and I will give you better directions. 518.524.4731.

Cheers!
