video to dvd?

Hey video experts. I have a box full of digital 8 video tapes that I want to make copies of on dvd for archival and ease of watching. I've tried using windows movie maker and I can upload it and copy it to a dvd that works fine playing in media player, but my bluray player just spits it back out. I will keep a copy on the computer as well as the dvd. 3 places ought to save the archives from gremlins. Any of you been down this path and know how to get to the other side?

WMM saves only as .wmv, no? Your BR player is probably looking for a different format. Ditch the player and get/build a PVR

The windows movie maker. Same thing I'm using to rip from the tape.

Kami, I'm interested and will look into this. I love a project and gadgets as well. Do I get to solder? :wee::smilegrin:

PVR is cool, think TiVO without the fees ;) kinda.
I use mine as basically a PC plugged into the TV and use the Windows Media Center to play DVDs, downloaded videos etc etc. You shouldn't have to solder anything but you may have to mangle your TV cabinet

We've ditched the VCR and DVD player and when I get BR it'll be a drive in the bay ... it's great just to plug things in, write a disc of downloaded stuff and have it WORK without worrying about the format!

I put a multi-card reader in too, so to watch GoPro etc just put the card in the hole :)

I did this exact thing with Nero a couple of years ago and it worked great. I tried dazzle software that came with the video converter and it didn't work. I think I created the video in windows movie maker and then imported it to nero and did the rest. It even allowed me to make chapters and shortcuts in the main menu to skip to different parts of the dvd. Good Luck.

I think I've used Nero for other stuff years ago. I'll look into that.

I use this for general mp4 - mpeg conversions. I think it can handle most tasks and is simple to use. You should be able to download a trial and give it a whirl. cucusoft converter
