Seanny: I could almost copy and paste the majority of your list to mine. We have similar tastes. Only thing is I'm 40 years old and still enjoy metal. That isn't too weird is it?

Is it weird? HELL NO! Do you know how many other people in my school listen to bands like this? ZERO :lol: And even if they do listen to "metal", it's really BAD metal. Like the MTV kind. Everyone I've ever met that likes this kind of stuff is much older than I. And I really don't mind. I don't really like teenagers. I know that may sound weird because I am one, but teenagers these days are so stupid. Maybe they've always been stupid, I don't know, but I sometimes feel embarrassed to be less than 20 :crazy: I listen to all music, new and old (although old is without a doubt the best), as long as it's good. It is unfortunately hard to find any new good music... if you want to search for some, I would not recommend public radio...

If ya want to add in some new-skhool, try some:

Cage the White Elephant, MGMT or some Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Love the list, thought you may have found my MP3 player somewhere.

You could add in some old Ted Nugent - Wango Tango, Stranglehold, Little Miss Dangerous.....or some Pink Floyd too....Sammy Hagar works...but it has to be his really old stuff - long before Van Halen....speaking of Halen, early Halen with D.Roth rocks too.

My opinion anyways....rock on!

Give Machine Head (album) by Deep Purple a listen. That might just slot nicely into your list. Here's some of my fav's. Don't fear the reaper (Blue Oyster Cult). Wicked World. (Aneiki). Follow You Follow Me (Genesis). These Dreams (Heart) Sober (Kelly Clarkson) Pink Floyd's always good for a listen. Quite like some Celtic music too - things like 'Riverdance' and Cara Dillon. And let's not forget Joe Satriani. Music keeps me sane.

@awindofchange
Love MGMT! I also recall seeing Yeah Yeah Yeahs live somewhere... ACL? Don't quite remember. And of course Pink Floyd is outstanding. I have a large collection of their albums, my personal favorite being Dark Side of the Moon.

@John
Deep Purple is awesome! I enjoy their early stuff the most, I think In Rock is my favorite. I have Machine Head around here, somewhere... Love Blue Oyster Cult. I don't think I've heard of Aneiki, but if I search some of their music I may recognize them. Genesis is good, Heart is alright, more of a hit-miss for me. Haven't listened to much Kelly Clarkson. If you like Celtic music, you've got to check out the band Flogging Molly if you haven't already heard them. I'm surprised I forgot to put them on the list, thanks for reminding me about the Celtic stuff. They're an Irish folk/punk band, very fun, very talented, lots of energy :) check it out!

Just a little note... anyone who has not heard the album "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" by Candlemass simply must give it a try. At LEAST listen to "Under the Oak"! Absolutely beautiful. There's not much else I've listened to that could top that. This album is old news... a recently discovered favorite that blew me away was the double album called "Precambrian" by German band The Ocean Collective. I would do some reading up on it... it has quickly shot to the top of my music list. The concept is completely original, and the band has a sound of their own. I got the European release of it mailed to me... it is the better of the two, the other version being the American one. It comes in a cool case with two disks. The first CD is really quite nifty, as it's actually a mini disk that's encased in a rim of clear plastic so it's the size of a standard CD. This could easily be considered an EP, as it's quite short, and has a heavy, aggressive, raw sound to it. The second CD is much longer, much more elaborate, and has a sound that could be best described as a dark, progressive, atmospheric metal with a strong hardcore punk influence with a lot of clean vocals. Very well done. They play many instruments throughout, including pianos, violins, saxophones, and tambourines. The album comes with a long and detailed booklet with lyrics and notes about the concept of the album. Definitely worth a listen.

Candlemass & Ocean Collective is heavy stuff indeed, Sean. A bit too much for me. Also agree with Angus about the early Van Halen - I think there first album was head and shoulders their best. As was Boston's first album. Barracuda by Heart was an awesome song too. I've been buying a lot of movie soundtracks of late. Some great tracks from Transformers, Sunshine & Stargate. Love some of the music from The Matrix II but can't seem to find that.

Have a listen to some Butterfly Effect tracks, Sean - interesting stuff.
