I'll bet your dad is too! I know I would be. Last concert I went to was an outdoor hippy fest/campout weekend with about 30 regional acts. I can almost remember having a great time there!:smilegrin:

dude, they are great! Neil Peart is the most bada$$ drummer in the world. Terrible thing is ,they still aren't in the "rock n roll hall of fame"yet. They have many albums that span at least 30+ yrs. But some one hit wonders are.

have fun w/ your pops! sounds like he's an old school cool guy.

Awesome Seanny! I love that band. And as Weld said, they, of all musicians, should be in the R&R hall but then again they were never the "Politically correct" type of band. Their huge fan base justifies their greatness and my own love of them and their work does it for me so hell with the hall thing. Great kite buggy music as well (Red Barchetta while on a screaming reach speed run)

There's a lot of really good things and a lot of really bad things about growing up in the 70s and 80s, but one thing is for sure... that was the golden age of music. I wish I was around then to see these guys when they were young, but I have no doubt in my mind that they still kick ass. My dad is an old school rock n' roller to the bone. Love it! Oh. And the R&R is a big corporate joke. I used to pay attention to it, but not anymore. How the hell is Judas Priest and Rush and Iron Maiden not in it? Then Metallica got in (speaking of corporate joke...:rolleyes: ), and that's where I drew the line. There are a lot of rock and metal bands that deserve a spot. Even some death metal bands, like Sepultura and Death and Morbid Angel. I think these three bands will be eligible in 2012... but why does it matter. They'll never even be considered.

Stoked for RUSH!! Gratz on the tix Kiteetik! :D

Haha... reminds me of this little note I read in a magazine a few years back... the article talked about this guy, now a father, saying (of when he was younger) "I want to see the Rolling Stones in concert before I die."

His son sparked this memory when he was talking about attending a rolling stones concert saying " I want to see the Rolling Stones in concert before they die." HAHAHA

@kiteetik
I'm not a guitar player, but I am a drummer, and I have nothing but respect for Neil and all of the guys in Rush. As well as being immensely talented and original, they put their heart into everything they write full force, every time. Music just isn't the same.

@Donny
Hey now I'm quite fond of Jethro Tull :) but my point still stands!

@InvertedForce

I'm must admit that I'm not a big fan of theirs..Not that I don't like them I just never took much time to appreciate their music other than what is on the radio. That aside I believe them to be a very original sound and would never pass up seeing them if I had the chance. These boys really bring a lot to the table with skill and passion, that I don't believe exists in a majority of the bands emerging or have emerged over the past decade. The music industry has turned into a frenzy of artists who sold out their roots to make over commercialized music that most couldn't play without being plugged into electronics to get their sound. Even live unplugged sessions are still plugged in with synths and auto-tune vocals. Hate to see what my grandkids will be listening too.....when Avril Lavigne is considered classic rock, I'll still be rockin the Wall and chillin' to Cream. Enjoy the show bud!:thumbup:

In regards to auto-tuned commercialized music that kids these days seem to be soaking up:

While I enjoy all music from all ends of the spectrum and will never attack anyone based on their tastes... I just fail to understand how people can turn a blind eye towards the classics... the epicenter of modern music, a revelation in popular culture world wide, that was, and still is today, the best. And I'm not just talking about rock n' roll... blues was around long before that. Jazz, bluegrass, even composers like Mozart...Kids don't even bother to TRY learning about where their "music" came from. Even with rap! Nobody listens to Public Enemy or anything old school anymore! It's all fake! Manufactured, cookie-cut, commercialized, auto-tuned, talentless, CRAP. Okay. So "all" is a strong word. But I think it's safe to generalize. I just don't get it. There's always been good music and there's always been bad music... but it seems that these days, there's so much more bad music than good music, and people fall for it. Do they even realize that the majority of their material has been raped countless times from the original musicians?

I think every day about what's going to happen in 15 years to these kids. What will they be listening to? I can only hope that they look back and wonder how the hell they liked such junk. As for me... I'm staying original. I'm constantly on the lookout for new, good music. It's hard to find, but it can be found. I do obviously have a knack for good ol' fashion, adrenalin injected, kick in the teeth metal, but I know what's good and what's not in that field also. I think metal is still alive and strong today (well maybe alive and strong, but today's "metal" SUCKS) because IMO it's one of the most pure forms of music. I'm going to see Finnish deathgrind band Rotten Sound on Feb. 4th to release some energy and have a good time. I completely understand why so many people dislike metal in general, but most of them haven't really listened to it either. Or maybe they have, and it was something particularly terrible, and they got turned off. With most cases, what they listen to is just simply too heavy and aggressive. Well, that's what happens when you listen to Napalm Death after the heaviest thing you'd heard prior is Fall Out Boy. But whatever the reason, the kiddos need to give the good stuff an honest listen, get an educated opinion, and if they still don't get into it, at least show some respect... Lady Gaga is just flat out insulting...

Kay this was way before my time, a little off my typical taste but my dad listened to him a lot. Because of that influence I really appreciate listening to the actual stories told by him........

Because of the recent longboard vid I posted I started to listen to this band. Best quote ever from one of their songs: "I gained the world and lost my soul" not that old but real unique.

Just so much good music out there

Neil Peart

Hey guys

Every one of you, even if you're not a Rush fan, should read Neil's books, starting with Ghost Rider. It will give you an indepth look at the "real" person behind the drum kit. He is am amazing writer and has lived a life worth reading about.

Some of his other books are; Traveling Music and Road Show, plus he has a new one coming out in May.

Pick them up for those no-wind days and enjoy the "ride"!

yes, neil is an amazing writer--very interesting reading that is hard to put down--one or more of his books were written when he took a cross country motorcycle trip to help deal with the tragic deaths of his wife and daughter.......he's now remarried with a son, i think.......

Neil is still #3 drummer on my list... I love the guy, but c'mon... You talk about classics and roots... Buddy Rich is a god among drummers!

And in terms of sheer skill and complete "how the hell did he just do that?" Danny Carey is the drummer I am in my dreams lol! I got ahold of some of his sheet music, and it looks like 4 drummers should be playing what he does with his right foot! :lol:

But seriously, I'm jelly... That would be a way sweet show!

Rush comes to the MGM here in Vegas on the 24th. I'm working on getting tickets for it. Tickets on the floor are over a grand and nosebleed are $150. I hope I know somebody that knows somebody. My son Wexler is a pretty good drummer and recognizes Neil as the greatest, so I'm going to get him there one way or another.
