(EDIT Picture) Good body armor for NABX?

Since it's really common to crash and slide out while freestyle ATBing, it sounds important to have some good body armor for the playa surface. Does anybody know of any good armor for legs and hips? Name brands or links anything that would be helpful i would appreciate. Those of you who have been to NABX before would you help me out? Thanks :)

Do you think these pants would work for the playa? Monster, Fox, and Fly seem to have a few pairs of affordable pants, but could you NABX pilots tell me if they would be good for out there?

661

Hit TDMC96 and see if you can borrow his pressure suit. He doesnt need it because he doesn't go fast enough to get an OBE.

Hahahah.

Are we there yet?

hehehe....yup. 661 pressure suit will give you the added "comfort"watching that hard surface whip by under you. Just wear it with pride. I stepped out of the KiteKoach last year the day after the world record day (winds were about the same) all suited up and the guys we were parked next to at the time had a good laugh at me. The wind was enough that all I felt comfortable with was the 1.5m yet I watched one of the giggleguys not much later hop in a buggy wearing nothing but a shirt, shorts and a ball cap!

Hooj! (?)

They actually laughed. I couldn't believe it. Super nice guys though - don't get me wrong. Was a pleasure to be their neighbour for the day but still.....I never ride without safety taken into account. Heck...look at the background to this webpage.....THAT's the surface! Phree ate a bit of it last year - he'll tell ya what not to wear ; )

Hillbilly asss pads are great for hips and tailbones.
Can't go wrong with 661

Jumping on the playa isn't generally encouraged . The nature of the surface tends to make those who should remain earthbound remain that way so it doesn't seem an issue.

I know I was looking forward to jumping last year but just wasn't feeling qualified. I wasn't getting in tune with my then new 10m Charger so stayed earthbound . Phree' was just enough bigger and better that he could hold down the 15m and was getting some great air.

P.S. I suspect K3 is going to blow folks away this year. He has learnd a LOT chasing Ricky and getting him ready for WC.

Hi

Last year was my first NABX and I thought it would be a really good idea to get body armor. I did some reserch and bought the mesh shirt type from E-bay. When I arrived at Primm I was really pumped and could'nt wait to get out on the plya, so I put my band new body armor on and off I went with a huge #@%$#! eating grin on my face, which pretty much stayed there all week, even though I had three OBE's ......... breaking a rib on the second. The funny thing is that I seemed to hit every piece of my body that was'nt covered by the armor, at the end of the week my brand new body armor still looked brand new which is more than I can say about me. This year I'm taking it with me but I think I should just figure out how to keep my a$$ in the buggy:eureka:

22 days .............. woop woop.

thanks cool breeze, i thought about that too, but i'm gonna be crashing more than the average rider since i'm going to be freestyling and jumping. i'll be sliding out alot on my butt and back especially when i crash during 720s and stuff. i really don't want to spend the money, but i think that'll be worth saving a trip to the hospital

How do you get a harness around a pressure suit/armor? Dumb question, I know.

The armor sure makes playa kisses feel much better! I harness first then wrap the pressure suit around. I had to make a hook on the back of the harness so the armor doesn't ride up! Makes for more of a body suit especially combined with wrist guards and knee/shin boots. People only think you look silly till you take off like a @*^^%$^&&!

I remember last year at NABX when Dirk (Screwyfits) took a massive OBE over by the highway....he was wearing body armor under his sweatshirt and man was it torn up.
I also like to wear knee protection as the first year I went, I had my XR+ and on my first ride out...I OBE'd and tore up my knees pretty good.

27 more days till Rip eats playa dust!:smilegrin:

I found a pair if decently priced moto cross pants that look like they may be worth looking into. I don't think I'll get a racing jersey or anything lol.

I had the same question about a year and a half ago. Link. I finely just bit the bullet and bought a 661 pressure suit.

With the harness on. It's not uncomphy but the harness that I sized to my regular waist is a bit tight.

The back protecter. I love it. I had an OBE where I got lifted then droped onto my side rail with no ill effects.

Front. I haven't had the pleasure of testing out the chest protector yet but it makes a good punching target for drunk "friends".

With the helmet on and everything my wife says I look like an action figure.:smug:

Bring spare tires, then. If you will be sliding a lot then think about 16 square miles of 60-grit sandpaper

Angus I'll have at least 4pairs of tires with me. I'll try and be conservative for the most part. I'll probably take it easy for the first day or so, that way I can get my bearing of how hard I can push things with a relative amount of control. I'm looking forward to meeting you and everybody else in the PKF family while I'm there. It's going to be a great time
