Hey itchy. Hope to ride with you locals when I get settled there this summer. That is cool that it runs on an ipod touch. Didn't think it could without wifi. I will look into the app and see how it works.

Hey Dean
ever since you posted this I sent the note to a friend and he's been using it the last few outings this winter - keeps his phone in his coat pocket and it lasts his entire session kite skiing.

his trail from this past sunday on the lake:
http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=998703

Not sure how accurate it is - for being on a lake the altitude changes are all over the place and running that app and some other app speeds are a little different - but still cool to see the active tracks .

Everytrail does chew the battery a bit.... but there are ways to minimize that. If your device is already abusive on batteries, this just make it more so. There is a thread on the Everytrail forum that might be of interest to you:

Battery life using Everytrail on iPhone 3gs

Bob not sure how easy trail works without wifi cause its not my app. As far as riding with us goes you are more than welcome to come with us. Just get ahold of Kent at a wind of change he knows how to get a hold of us. I will tell him to give you my number.

Dean, thanks for posting this!

Itchy, was it really an iPod Touch? I need to buy a new iPod and have been trying to decide between a Touch (which has stuff I will never use) and a new (super small) Nano. If EveryTrail really works on the iPod Touch (their web site does not indicate that it does) then I know which iPod I'm getting!

I just did some research and I'm thinking it was an iPhone you had, not an iPod????

After a bit more research, I find that I can use my BlackBerry with EveryTrail. So either way I'm happy

Thanks,
Darrin

iPod Touch (3rd gen) / Magellan ToughCase running EveryTrail PRO app

It used to be available at REI. For specs and reviews, click here.

Click on the Reviews tab and scroll down to the post by PowderLancer. That's my review. Battery power is not an issue. You can track all day long. You'll just need to recharge it at night. The ToughCase adds battery power and a sensitive GPS chipset to your iPod Touch or iPhone 3G. You don't need a network connection just to track. You can save the trip and upload it later when you do have a wifi connection.
