One problem with that Rip. At least prob with AT&T.
There are currently two data services with AT&T.
1) old Iphone users can keep their old data plan contract, but no tethering.
2) new data plan with tethering has two service levels
a) almost no data (can not remember exact number but think 250mb)
b) Not enough (in my opinion) 2 gb

Other problem is the AT&T service (at least last year) was the edge network 90% of the time. Only 3g sig I got was mall to lake bed entrance.

BTW I have the old unlimited data plan :P

so much for that

how do they charge you for tethering???

oh well, I guess I'll buy the wifi at the hotel, and turn my Mac into a Hotspot for others to use.

charge : by the beer / redbull / shot

If it will help, you, or anyone else can use my phone as a wifi hotspot. I do it all the time. It's only 3g but it works. Sprint has ok coverage out on the lake bed.

or you can self write an app that is a http relay, not that I'm suggesting anyone do that...

I did however have a HUGE issue issue with having any ATT signal on the playa last year.

EasyTether is an Android app that will allow you to tether free of charge, iPhone may have a similar app.

Last year I had full bars on all of Ivanpah. Even posted a pic to Facebook from the out & back marker. iPhone 3Gs

Even had marginal signal at harpers where other people barely had bars. Maybe I just have a lucky supper iPhone.
