Flysurfer FLS
Which front line is it supposed to go to on the Speed2 19 SilverArrow? Left or right?
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

I think it was right on mine. Are you switching back from FDS?

All this time and I have not flown the kite in high enough winds to do a true safety test of the FDS. I could imagine the 19 would be a handful on
the 5th in higher winds. Have you used the FDS? There are a few topics on it on Foilzone.
The best of course is to have a competent assisted land.

Are you changing it for safety or landing purposes? If landing purposes, just add a landing line - that's what I did on the Pulse and it makes a
world of difference. If for safety reasons, please elaborate as mine came with FDS and I've never thought of changing it but would like to know if
you see an advantage in FLS for safety.

I slid the stopper ball up on the leader line on the knot closest to the bar, added a landing line and then slid the stopper ball back down so the
landing line knot is sandwhiched between the leader line knot and the stopper ball.
I used mule tape because its just what I had laying around and it was the perfect length. I tied a loop in the middle of the mule tape just big
enough to hook onto my spreader bar and anchor the kite to me if necessary and obviously large enough to get a stake through to anchor the kite on the
ground and then I tied the bitter ends off around the leaders as described. It was an experiment but I liked it so much I went out and bought amsteel
and did the same thing to my Eskimo but I did that much cleaner fishing the landing line through the stopper ball and then tying a free standing knot
on the landing line bitter ends and burying that in the stopper ball knot and sandwhiching it down on the leader line knot. Then I added about 6
inches of tubbing to the middle of the line and tied a loop. The tubing keeps the loop in shape and makes it easy to grab, stake and secure to my
spreader bar.
It only cost me about $2 and took 5 minutes but it makes landing and securing the pulse much easier, especially in its upper wind limits.

The consensus on foilzone seems to be that the FDS is better - the kite doesn't spin around tangling the lines on the way down and the mixer doesn't
get tangled either (although it's done that to me on the S1.5 FDS) but there are those on either side ... watching the FDS Speed2 video of Armin
playing silly buggers, the kite spins but relaunches just fine - that's my experience with the arcs too ...
I used the FLS for safety only once on the SA2 and it worked fine. Wasn't big wind though.
FDS on the Speed 1.5, I remember the kite 'flying' and not going to the ground ... was a little over-powered that day. Usually fine.
Last outing on the Silberpfeil, the kite fell out of the sky on the beach and I had to joggle in from the shallows to sort it out. When I got back to
the bar, the FDS had knotted itself around the front lines was not amused.
I never land on the safety, as such - land by grabbing the leaders and back stalling, wrap lines around a stick or anchor like an F.B. foil ... or if
the wind is up, backstall then unhook and drop the bar, letting the kite flag. Secure the leash to my board, run down the line and sand the kite.
Damned if I can remember which line it was on ... I seem to remember the left, but the video shows the right.
Also - the manual shows a tie-ball at the front line leader ring, but I don't remember one of those either and the Speed3 doesn't seem to have one
either - necessary?
How about an ELC/stopper ball at the 12m mark on the front line to stop the bar? (don't remember that either :o )
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Had a close look at my lines ... going by the wear, I can guess which line had the FLS on it, that it didn't have a tie-ball and did have an ELC at
the 12m mark ... now it's a matter of getting around to sorting it all out I've
got to get the Ozone CL on there too :o
