Buggy Mud/dust guards

What is the consensus of opinion regarding having any type of front mudguard on the playa...is it really needed?

I think your going to need a Mud/Dust guard for the debris that you might pick up on the playa (the odd loose clump)
The dust?.....your gonna get dusty regardless because of the speeds one can achive out there but I think the guard will help keep it down.
On my first year (09)I wore a white shirt that turned an ugly tan brown from the dust and its never been the same since.
See yah soon Carl!

Last year I just had a splash guard that worked out ok for the dust. There are loose rocks here and there. I would actually love a fender that would fit a libre hardcode :bigok: Anyone have an extra or love to fab :)

Some people have trouble with breathing the dust. It is super fine. Can't be avoided even with fenders.

Folks aren't often seen with a bandana over their face because they think they look Kool. If you suspect you will have issues think about somekind of dust mask ? Scarf or bandana work.

Good point... after day 1 last year my lugs were dead. csa gave me a bandanna for the rest of the week and it was a life saver. For those who are not dust mites, I *HIGHLY* having a bandanna. Saves your lungs, and make you look like a train robber. Could it get any better?!

Well I have not driven a buggy at 50 mph through the Ivanpah lake bed, but I have spent 6 hours on a lawn mower in 108 degree heat mowing the dust, and I can tell you that fender or no fender, if it's as fine as I'd imagine it to be, it won't help much. A wet bandana or dust mask is the best you can do. Wear sunglasses, too, if you weren't going to anyway. That #@%$#! gets in your eyes and there's no wiping it away when your face and hands are sweaty (and also coated in dust). Not too sure about pebbles and such, but IMO going through mud is half the fun :)

I didn't have anything on my face or on the buggy last year. I have a splash guard for the Ivanpah that I can run to stop anything from getting kicked up from the front tire. It's a TSG made by buggy bag man for the Ivanpah. I'll bring it and my custom job I made from a Rubbermaid garbage can lid last fall. Not sure I'll run either but I'll have them. Seems like most of the dust boils up behind you in the vacuum your body creates by moving through the air.

13 bucks could get you a front fender and fits just about any buggy

grinding shield ..just pull off the head band and drill two small hole that you run zip ties to fork bridge and the holes that held the head band on anchor to the fork tubes also you can extend the shield downward via more drilling and placement of flexible rubber just in-case you run over a larger rock

sort of like this

that I used for a BF buggy

its not the dust that is flying into your face, thats your vapor trail from going so fast. youll notice your back contains most of the dust. http://vimeo.com/10801965

at speed small playa chips, pebbles due start flying from the front wheel.
