for sale: new phantom 18m SOLD

Some of the Pl team riders brought this kite over, but did not have room to take it back home so they left it with me to sell off.

The kite is brand new not even out of the bag. (till I took it out for pics :) )

colour: black and yellow

includes: kite, spares, and bag

I saw this listed on eBay and was really thinking about it. But some searches come up with people saying it wasn't good for kiteboarding? Also dunno if my zero7 bar from my 10m would work with it.

What size is your bar? I've flown an 18 on a 55cm bar in really light winds and it was fine. Probably better with a 60cm.

If you don't have good kite skills and will be putting the kite in the water alot, it might not be the bestto fly such a high AR kite in the water for relaunch. If you can fly blind and don't get in trouble much, the phantom would be a speed demon in the right conditions.

Plus if you do get into troubles with an Arc you just let go and it should head on up to zenith and wait for you to blow the seawater out of your nose. Of course you have to know when to let go and when to try to save it........

You can fly on land with this in 5-6 mph easy, flying with an occasional poke from a fingertip. then tie it off to a fence post and go have lunch (and really phreak out the tube-kiters). Someone grab this desirable piece of history.

In those lower winds, I use a 12v muffin fan from Radio Shack with 7-9v RC car battery (less than 1 lb), which will inflate it enough to bounce a quarter off of it in the time it takes to lay out your lines. Every launch is a an easy yawn.

I flew a Phantom 18 in waves in Hawaii for a while until I replaced it with a Venom 19. It was a huge upgrade from my Guerilla 18 and G2 in my opinion. Lots of range, good speed, good in gusts. On the down side, they are nearly impossible to relaunch if you drop it (I probably dropped mine 3 or 4 times over a couple years but only managed to relaunch it once), and I've had mine "tip clap" in gusty winds (the kite stalls and the two tips actually touch each other, kinda scarey when coming down the face of a big wave). If you're an experienced PL flier and kitesurfer, a Phantom 18 would be a good kite but personally I'd go for something with a lower AR, like a Venom, VII, or Vortex.

Oops, forgot to answer the second part of your question:

No, I don't think the standard 10m bar would be long enough for the Phantom 18. You'll want a bar that's about 55 cm long and if I recall correctly, the 10m bar is 45 cm. You definitely need a decent sized bar to turn the kite.
