NABX2011 The best yet!

NABX!
What can I say about it that everyone else hasn’t said already?
It was FREAKING AWESOME!!
I would first like to give a huge thanks to Dean (so sorry to hear about your unexpected hospital stay and hope you get well soon) and Team NABX for putting together such an incredible event.
The meals that came out of that tent were the best they have been to date.(loved those meatballs)
Nocando…what a crazy awesome aussie…thanks again for the hat ,shirt and laughter.(no rooting allowed….lol)
No wonder you were loosing your voice near the end……again,it was a pleasure meeting you.

Adam (flyjump)…What an incredible kid (I can say that as I am old enough to be his father)
As Beamerbob said, your enthusiasm and smile is addicting…such an outstanding guy!

Popeye the Welder.
I was walking past the hanging tree on Thursday night and low and behold, who did I find walking around looking for kiters.
It was truly a pleasure to finally meet Carl face to face.(yes….we are the same hight ,same age and have the same barber…lol)

After reading his blog on facebook, it felt like I had known him forever.

I know, I know....this pic might be a little disturbing for a few but Ricardo couldn't find Dino so Carl had to do....lol

The raffle was awesome this year, I donated a PL XR+ that I had won in last years raffle back to the raffle (along with a pink pair of sunglasses)….Aoxomoxoa found
I almost won the same buggy again (only 15 numbers out)

It was good to see all the faces from previous years back on the Playa again.

My biggest highlight was completing the out and back challenge this year.

We had 7 of us that started the out and back about noon.
Myself, Coolbreeze, Ron H, vwbrian, Popeye, Buggeyed (Gerald) and Bladerunner.
On the way to the first set of coordinates (6 miles), Bladerunner pulled out as the kite he had was too small and a little difficult to do on coyotes.
At one point as we were tacking to make it to the next section and we decided to take a break and put our kites down to let a few catch up.
At this point, Freeman had pulled up to where we were but bowtied his kite so I helped him sort it out.
On his relaunch he lost control and ended up going A$$ over tea kettle as his legs couldn’t run fast enough on the hot launch.
He let go of his kite and I grabbed his handles as they flew by me.(total fluke)
I am now holding 2 kites and Freeman was lying on the ground unconscious.
As I called for help from the others, Ron H passed his kite to me (I now have 3)and he and Grant helped Freeman gather his bearings and back to his feet.(Thank god he was wearing a helmet)
Note…..Always bring water and an extra kite when doing the out and back.

At this point, Popeye and Buggeyed escorted Freeman back to buggy town were he was no worse for wear.
The remaining 4 of us found the first set of coordinates and decided to fly back to buggytown to check on Freeman and get ready for the second leg of the adventure.
On the way back, vwbrian got a flat tire so Grant flew back ahead of us and picked up a spare wheel and tire and brought it out so he could change it.
When they got back, Grant noticed that his axle had broken and couldn’t complete the last 2 parts of the Out and Back.
The remaining 3 of us completed the the last 2 parts and returned to camp.
All in all it was an incredible 6 hour journey that I would love to do again.

At the first set of coordinates was a clue and more coordinates.
The second set of coordinates was where the poker chip was obtained.
The third had the leather patch and once you had done all three locations, you were able to go back to buggytown and show your proof that you had completed it and were able to buy the Out and Back patch.

Thanks again to everyone that made this a very memorable event.

Great report Ken 3! I really wished I had joined you guys down on the playa this year. Never mind, another year to practice won't do me any harm. Hope to hit NABX 2012.:bouncy:

Nocando is by far one of the highlights of NABX. I think the only time he stopped telling jokes was when he fell asleep underneath the buggy tent

Yes, Glen made for some very fun times under the tent when waiting for the wind. Even when jokes were cracked on him, he was laughing like the rest of us. Even kiteboyza tried to get under his skin and failed! Glen I sure hope you make it next year. It wouldn't be the same without you.

Good time with everyone, some good candid shots Ken.
Some of the conversations were pretty funny going between several accents around in a circle. Learned a lot of new words from Glenn for sure.
Love the international side of NABX all the great stories. Next year we Canadians should have a plan about hosting something when there is now wind like an afternoon road hockey game with back bacon and beer.

Wow! What a story! Freemanization taken to another level once again, how does he do it?!

I'm so jealous i wasn't there, but did get to meet nocando! Amazing.

Did not get to see BeamerBob this year, and you all should know, he's always right there to help the event if we need him(though he doesn't look for credit, he's a pretty special guy).

I also got to meet Ken Shaw the guy with the four wheel off road buggy, wow, can't wait to see what comes next year.

In spite of my dilly dallying around, we are already working on next year. A new mission statement, and getting better at communicating to each other.

If you can find the time, we really do read those surveys.

Yes some of the questions are old, and we need to update it. Look for a rebuild of the web site sometime next year.

Sounds like the Out n Back was as fun as we wanted it to be. Probably won't have it anymore. . .

aoxo~!~
